“Okay. We’re here,” I say.
Dawson and I were on the edge of Mexico City. It was a good thing I told aunt Laurie that I was on a field trip, because if she knew I was with Dawson, she would kill me(well not really). We took a plane here for the weekend since we both had that stupid irritation on our skin. Dawson said that they got the idea of vampires from us. It does make sense though.
“My five friends, you, and I are the only ones though. Unless they made more, which I hope they didn’t,” Dawson said.
“So, there are seven of us, maybe more? Wow, that’s so...weird. Okay, so the whole story is that you and Violetta were together, but you guys broke up because she was becoming more involved in Dark Magic and was more ‘demon-like’ instead of ‘angelic,’” I clarified.
“Yep. She’s still in love with me, though. She just doesn’t understand how I feel about you. She thinks I’m with you to make her jealous. The thing is though, I am really and truly in love with you,” he said and grabbed my chin.
Something still feels wrong. The whole idea of him loving me makes me feel like I should start getting ready for the biggest betrayal.
You can’t trust those you love the most, Rose’s small voice whispers in my head.
“Come on, let’s check in at the hotel,” he said and smiled.
I follow him to where the hotel was. When we already checked in and got our room key, I dropped my bag on the bed I was sleeping on. I realized something really important. I didn’t know how to...‘hunt’ I guess you could say. Mainly because I never payed attention and I was half asleep when that happened.
“Uh, Dawson?” I ask.
“Yes, Elizabeth?”
“How exactly do you ‘hunt’?” I asked.
I let my thought flow out of my head to his because I felt embarrassed to tell him out loud.
My head snapped to the window, where the sound had come from. I smelled blood. My arms were turning slightly red.
“Did you hear that?” He said cautiously.
“Yes, What do you think it is? I smell blood...” I rubbed my arms.
“I don’t know. It was probably just another guest,” he said.
“The thing is, there was blood. As in exposed blood,” I pointed out.
“Don’t worry. This is good. It will help with our senses to ‘hunt,’” he said wryly.
I nodded. He is the expert, after all.
“Well, did you get rid of the bodies?” Dawson asked.
“Of course. The thing is that I was always half-asleep...” My voice drifted away, embarrassed.
He looked slightly shocked. I could almost see into his mind, until I got locked out again. His thoughts were on the lines of, ‘That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard of.’
“Really?” He said with an arched eyebrow.
“Yes, really,” I said while laughing.
He gave a deep chuckle. It made me wonder about his old life, before he became...what he is. I was going to ask him when this thought overpowered my old one.
“Oh. So, why did they think we were vampires?” I asked again. For some reason, I was forgetting most of things I had learned since we got here. It was strange.
“They thought that because we left drained bodies out instead of hiding them,” he explained again.
“So they thought we sucked their blood?”
