A couple days after I saw Tony, I hadn't gotten a call from him. Same as when he left the force to become a NCIS agent. I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe it was that he had missed me as much as I missed him and he would call but I knew he would be busy trying to solve the case.

But it still felt like he had forgotten about me again. I understood why, I wasn't that important, but we had been partners. Shouldn't that count for something?

I jumped as my phone started ringing. Unknown caller. I let it ring, not wanting to listen to some telemarketer. I got up and walked to the fridge, searching for my stash of cookie dough. I heard the beep of the answering machine and a moment of silence before someone started talking.

"Hey, (Y/N). It's Tony." I heard him chuckle softly. "Leave it to you to still have a house phone when you have a cellphone. Um, I was calling to say we caught our murder, thanks for the info about his late night calls, and I was wondering if-"

"Hi, Tony, sorry. I'm not one to pick up unknown numbers. Um... but what were you wondering?" I asked, feeling my cheeks heating up a bit.

"Oh, I ah, I was wondering if you wanted to go to lunch sometime? We can talk about the case or just talk in general or both even," he rambled.

"Wait, Anthony Dinozzo rambling? Is he nervous?" I teased.

"What? No. Why would I be nervous? I have nothing to be nervous about," he replied, still rambling a little.

"Dinozzo," I heard someone say from Tony's phone.

"Yeah, boss?" Tony replied. I heard something that sounded like someone hitting another person. "Right. Sorry."

"Tony? Everything okay?" I asked.

"Yeah it's all good. So Friday? Say 1 o'clock? I'll pick you up from your apartment."

"Sounds perfect, Tony. I'll see you then," I replied, smiling.

"Great! Awesome! So I'll talk to you later then. Unless," he trailed off.

"Unless what, Dinozzo?"

"Well I'm getting ready to leave work, so do you want to wait a moment and I'll call you back on my cell and we can start talking now?" I laughed.

"I'd be up for that."

"Okay give me like, 30 seconds?"

"The clock starts now, Dinozzo."

I don't know how much sleep I got that night but I didn't care. He hasn't forgotten about me and it was great to hear his voice and laugh again.
