Harry -
The room is dark with a tint of morning sun blue seeping in through the curtains. I look down in my arms and see Lily still fast asleep. I can't help but smile. Last night we both finally got a good nights sleep now that her heat has passed.
I very gently unwrap my arms from around her and slip out of bed and get dressed. I decide to go check on Dylan and turn to walk out of the room when Lily's scent carries through the air.
It's different.
I walk back over and kiss her, and brush her hair away from her eyes and stare at her, taking in her scent. What's so different about it? Then it hits me...
Lily's pregnant.
*********
"Daddy, why you wake me up so early?" Dylan whines in my arms as I carry him downstairs.
"Because I've got surprise for Lily and I need you to help me with it." I tell him.
"Ooh! I gets to help you?" He asks, his eyes widening, him now suddenly wide awake.
"Yes you do. Now, what do you think she would like better, chocolate waffles or chocolate chip muffins?" I set Dylan on the kitchen island and he puts on his serious thinking face. Which is really hard to not laugh at.
"Chocolate....waffles." He finally decides and I suddenly wish I hadn't brought that to the table as a suggestion. Because I'm crap at making waffles.
"Okay. Let's start. Where's the recipe book?" I start to shuffle through the cabinet of cookbooks and when I finally find it, me and Dylan get to work.
By the end of it all, there's a few acceptable waffles, a pile of burnt or flat ones, and a huge mess in the kitchen.
"Well, we tried didn't we?" I ask, looking over at my flour covered son.
"Yep! And they're great! Can we eat them now?" He asks, excitedly.
"Not yet, I'm going get Lily and bring her down here. You start cleaning up." And with that, I head upstairs.
Upon entering mine and Lily's bedroom, the first thing I notice is Lily sitting up in bed, a worried look on her face.
"Morning. You okay?" I sit next to her, worried about why she'd be worried. What's to worry about?
"Harry, something's wrong. I don't feel right at all." Worry laces her words and I can't help but laugh at her being so adorable about this.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Because....don't you know why you feel so weird?" She shakes her head.
"Because of a little surprise that we made over the last few days." I whisper to her as I pull her underneath me and I support me weight around her and ghost my lips over hers.
"What?"
"You're pregnant." I tell her flatly. Then bust out laughing when she gasps and pushes me off her. Sending me flying to the floor and her running her hands over her flat stomach.
"How...when....how?" She stutters and stumbles asking the question.
"Uh, let me explain. When a female goes into heat, she has intense sexual needs. Her mate, taking it upon himself to help her through her sexual needs, puts his pen-"
"Okay! I know how it happens. It's just....am I really pregnant?" Her voice is so soft and so small. And she looks so freaking perfect right now.
"You are 100%, absolutely, positively, definitely pregnant!" I leap onto the bed, wrapping Lily in my arms and attacking her with kisses as she does something between laughing and crying.
"Daddy!" I hate to pull away, but with Dylan calling me from downstairs, I know what's the smart thing to do.
"Hey, come on downstairs, we've got a surprise for you." I tell Lily as I walk towards the door.
"Harry, I think I need to get dressed first." She giggles, pulling clothes on.
"Well, I mean, if you want to. You know how I prefer you." She gives me a "shut up right now" look and finishes dressing before taking my hand and we make our way to the kitchen. Where Dylan appears, still covered in flour, and pieces of a broken plate in his hands.
"Dylan, put those down! You'll cut yourself!" I tell him quickly, rushing over and taking the pieces out of his hands.
"Sorry, daddy. I dropped a plate and it smashed over the floor." He shyly says, gripping onto Lily's pajama pants.
"That's okay. Where'd you drop it?"
He takes my hand that's not holding the broken pieces and leads me to where the remaining pieces lay scattered across the floor.
I reach down to pick them up, but the loud shattering of glad fills my ears and I spin around to find a large black wolf bursting through the front window, teeth bared and fur standing on end.
I immediately shift and jump in front of Lily and Dylan, protecting them. This wolf isn't one of ours, but his scent is familiar. The wolf leaps at me, and the fight begins.
Push him to the floor, bite and claw. Him flipping us over, claw and bite.
Then he's off me and running toward Lily who's picked Dylan off the floor and holds him tightly in her arms.
I struggle to get up quickly, wolf paws not working their best on hardwood floors. But I manage to stop the wolf before he reaches Lily and Dylan. And then there's another wolf. A silky coated brown wolf with blue eyes. Louis.
Together we make a quick end to the black wolf, who louis is quick to remove from the house.
I shift back to human form and rush over to Lily and Dylan, taking Dylan in my arms and kissing Lily.
That's it. This is more than just random rogue attacks. Someone is letting them into the territory, and they know where I am. Where Lily is. Where my family is.
