Gen ran through the Central City Police Department and up to Barry's lab. She past Joe, almost running into him. "Hi Joe! Bye Joe!"
Joe looked back at her running figure and chuckled. "Nice to see you too Gen."
Gen skidded to a stop and turned into the lab, "I'm here! I'm here!" Barry looked up from his desk and smiled, "It's about time. Ready to go? I'm starving."
Gen smiled, "Yeah, let's go." She grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the lab. They made there way downstairs and headed outside.
"Again, I'm really sorry I was late. My new case is beginning to become a big pain in the ass." Gen crossed her arms over her chest and looked over at him.
Barry had his hands tucked into his coat pocket and his lips were turned upward in a smile. "It's alright. I mean, being this big shot lawyer must require a lot of your time."
Gen looked down at her feet and nodded. "Yeah," she said, "it could get a bit crazy at times, but it's honestly worth it in the end."
She turned to look back up at Barry and saw he was looking at her and his smile only grew. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What?"
He chuckled, "It's just...you're an amazing person you know that right? Helping all those people. You're a hero Gen."
Her heart began to beat faster and her stomach dropped. "I'm no hero Barry. Trust me."
"You're a killer," she thought, "you're far from being a hero."
"You're just being modest." He nudged her shoulder.
She pulled her lips up into a forced smile, "Whatever you say Allen."
And that's what she did for the rest of the walk to the diner. Forced a smile. How could be genuine? Just the thought that Barry thought she was a good person, no, a hero made her want to hide under a rock for the rest of her life. And if he were to ever find out who she truly was....it would definately kill her. She couldn't bare to see the faces of her friends and family if they found out she was a heartless killer.
They made it to diner, chilled to the bone. The temperature had dropped drastically and Barry had his arm around Gen, holding her close to him to keep warm.
They walked over to a booth and took a seat, still close to each other. Gen was shivering, "How the hell could the temperature drop so much in just a few seconds."
Barry shrugged, his arm still around her, "I don't know. Mother nature is crazy like that." She smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder.
To a normal person sitting at a different booth or just passing by the window outside it might look like they were a couple. But they both knew the truth. They were only friends. Gen was sure Barry didn't feel the same way she did about him. His arm around her and holding her close was just a friendly gesture on order to protect her from the harsh weather.
She was sure Barry's heart didn't race the way hers did everytime she layed eyes on him. Or the way her stomach flipped everytime his laugh reached her ears. Or even how every cell in her body tingles when he takes her hand or hugs her so his chin rests on top of her head in an attempt to comfort her when she's upset.
She was so sure he didn't feel the same way.
Little did Gen know Barry was thinking the exact same thing.
