he aroma of bacon and eggs traveled throughout the house. Gen had been awake for the last hour, but all she did was stare at the ceiling deep in thought.
Different questions raced through her mind.
Why did Delilah suggest she stay here?
What if they find her and go after Barry, Iris and Joe?
Who was hunting her?
How was she suppose to defend everyone with her arm in a damn sling?
When the smell of food traveled under the door and hit her nose she took a big whiff and smiled.
"Looks like I better get up," Gen mumbled to herself.
She threw the covers off of herself and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Her feet touched the floor and she immediately recoiled.
"Damn it's freezing." She looked around the room and saw her slippers in the far corner. She groaned in annoyance and quickly ran to them. She slipped them on and made her way to the bathroom.
She quickly brushed her teeth and fixed her rat's nest of hair. She walked downstairs and heard the faint clanking of plates and talking.
When she entered the kitchen she smiled at the scene before her.
Iris and Barry were bickering over the last bit of orange juice. Joe was drinking his coffee and reading the paper.
She walked foward and picked up a piece of bacon. "Morning everyone."
Barry was the first to respond, "Goodmorning Gen, how did you sleep."
She took a bite of the bacon and leaned against the counter, "As well as you'd expect with this thing on."
She scratched it in annoyance and wiggled her fingers.
"You probably shouldn't mess with it. We don't want you back at the hospital for opening the stitches," Iris said and snatched the carton of orange juice from Barry.
He frowned and just settled for some coffee. He got a mug and walked up to the stove next to Gen.
He poured some in his mug and glanced at her, "You want some?"
She shook her head, "No I'm good for now."
Someone's phone buzzed on the table and everyone looked at Joe. He picked it up and answered, "Detective West."
He nodded a couple of times to himself, "Okay be there soon." He hung up and looked at Barry.
"Duty calls son," Joe stood up and put his cup in the sink. He planted a kiss on Iris' head and gave Gen a hug.
"See you two at dinner," and with that he grabbed his coat and walked out the door.
"That's probably my que," Iris placed her dishes in the sink and grabbed her keys, "Bye guys."
Gen and Barry both waved their goodbyes and heard the aoft click of the door.
Gen watched Barry sit back down and nonchalantly drink his coffee. She raised an eyebrow, "Shouldn't you be going too?"
He shrugged, "Not right away." He took another sip of his coffee and ate some bacon.
Gen nodded and took a seat, "That must be nice, not having to be in at the crack of dawn."
Barry chuckled, "It does have its perks." He ate some more and washed it down with more coffee, "So what do you plan on doing all day?"
Honestly, she was going to catch a cab to the office to help uncover who was after her, but she couldn't tell him that. He would lock her in a room or something.
"Probably watch TV and check my e-mail. Nothing major." She shrugged her good shoulder.
He nodded and stood up to put the remaining plates in the sink. She glanced down at the table and saw a small article titled: The Streak.
She raised an eyebrow and picked up the newspaper. She began reading the article, and pursed her lips in thought.
She didn't notice Barry had asked her a question. She still didn't notice when he asked her again and walked behind her chair. He looked down at the article and his heart began to beat a little faster.
"Can you believe this? A man that can run faster than a bullet. Is that even possible?" Gen thought out loud.
He shrugged and took a better look at the article, "It doesn't sound possible. A guy with superpowers? Sounds like something straight out of the movies."
He quickly walked from behind her and Gen looked up at him in disbelief.
"Aren't you the one who always told me to believe in the impossible?" She put the paper down on the table and stood up.
Barry shrugged and grabbed his jacket from behind the chair. He slipped it on and sighed, "Listen Gen, just try and stay here today. Don't go and get yourself into any trouble."
He looked at her with such sincerity and concern it made Gen's heart skip a beat. She nodded and flashed him a warm smile, "No need to worry about me Barry."
He relaxed and nodded, "Okay good." He started making his way towards the door and yelled over his shoulder, "See you later."
The smile fell from her face as she said her goodbye to Barry. A thought surfaced in the back of her head, telling her to keep the promise she just made to Barry.
She stood in the kitchen for a few more minutes, debating on whether she should go or not. The men after her could be at her job or her home. They could be waiting outside right now to see if she's in here.
For all she knows she could easily be walking into some type of trap.
And with that she ran upstairs to get dressed.
