Gen woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. She slowly raised her head up from her pillow and reached over for her phone. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was Delilah.
Gen groaned and answered, "I'm going to see you in an hour what couldn't possibly wait until then."
After a few seconds of silence, Delilah's slightly shakey voice came through the phone. "Genevieve get to the firm. Now."
Immediately Gen sat up and was running to get dressed. Delilah never used her full name unless something bad happened.
She was buttoning her jeans when she finally spoke back. "On a scale from missing file to agent fown how bad is it?"
Gen slipped on her boots and grabbed her keys from the counter. "Someone broke in Gen. Just get here as quick as possible." With that. Delilah hung up.
Gen stuck her phone in her jacket pocket and ran out the door. She locked the door and when she turned Caitlin was standing there with two cups of coffee.
"Wow, you're up bright and early," Gen squeaked.
"Well, I figured since you don't have to be in for another hour, and I had a little extra time this morning I'd bring the coffee to you." Caitlin smiled and held out one of the cups to her.
Gen hesitantly took the cup and gave Caitlin a pained smile. "I'm sorry Cait, but I called in early today. I have to meet with a client."
She watched Caitlin's smile slowly drop. "Oh, um okay."
Gen tucked her keys into her jacket pocket and quickly took her cousin's hand. "I'm sorry Cait. How about tomorrow? I promise I'll cook pancakes with blueberries and strawberries and whatever berries you'd want." She gave her cousin's hand a soft squeeze and a soft smile.
"Alright," Caitlin nodded, "I'll hold you to it." A smile formed on Caitlin's face.
Gen sighed in relief and gave Caitlin a quick hug. "Thanks cuz. Bye!"
Caitlin watched her run off and sighed.

As Gen pulled up to the building, she saw two police cars and a stressed Delilah standing on the top step. She quickly parked and jumped out. Running up the concrete stairs caused Delilah to look up from her phone and sigh. "About time you got here."
"Sorry, Caitlin showed up this morning with coffee." She apologized. Her and Delilah walked through the front door and was met with a handful of police snooping around.
One in particular caught Gen's eye. She had walked down the hallway and into her office, where she found ab officer going through her desk.
"Excuse me," she snapped, "what do you think you're doing?"
The police officer looked up, a light blush quickly covering his cheeks.
Gen placed her hands on her hips and raised an eyebrow, "Well?"
The flustered cop cleared his throat and took a few steps towards her. "My apologies ma'am. I was just searching for anything out of the ordinary here."
Gen's eyes wandered from his defined jawline to the freckles that lightly scattered on his tan cheeks and nose. Once her eyes reached his emerald greens she felt her heart beat just a little faster.
"Um, it's fine, I'm just, um, not a fan of people, um, going through my things. No matter the circumstances." Gen pressed her lips into a thin line.
The man quickly nodded, "No worries I understand." He held his hand out, "I'm officer McCarney."
Gen took his hand and shook it, "Genevieve. Nice to meet you."
She looked around the office, "So did anything look out of place?"
Officer McCarney shook his head, "Not that I know of."
Gen nodded and placed her hands on her hips, "Well, I guess I should get to it then." She felt a bit bad for booting him out like that, but she need to fully check the office.
"Oh, um, alright." He nodded and headed out. As he did that, Joe walked in. "Hey Gen, are you okay?"
"No worries Joe. I'm fine. I actually just got here." She said.
He looked around her office and nodded. "Alright. Barry should be here in a bit. If you have any questions you know where to find me."
Gen smiled warmly at him, "Thanks Joe, I appreciate it."
He gave her a smile and a nod, and walked out. Gen's smile immediately fell and she ran to the door. She shut it and turned the lock. She walked over to the farthest corner of the room and got on her knees.
The office floor was wood so it was easy to store important things under the panels. Like a small safe for example.
She pulled the pocket knife out of her jacket pocket and pried the panel off. Underneath was a silver safe, protected with a finger scan and passcode.
Quickly she opened it and checked inside. She thumbed through files and opened smaller boxes.
Finally a sigh of relief eacaped her lips and she sat back.
"Okay, nothing from here is missing. That's good." She muttered to herself.
She was in the middle of placing the panel back in place when a knock came from the door. "Gen?" A voice said.
She stood up and pressed on the tile with her foot, "Give me a second." She responded.
Quickly she gave it another pat with her foot and jogged to the door. With a clicked it was unlocked and she swung it open.
Immediately Barry engulfed her in a hug, catching her by suprise.
"Uh, nice to see you too?" She said.
Barry stepped back, his hands on her arms, "I'm sorry I'm late. When Joe told me that someone broke into the firm I rushed over here."
She chuckled, "I'm glad you care." She patted his cheek and walked back into the office. "No but seriously, do you need to do your CSI thing? Or-"
Gen noticed the picture she had up on her wall was crooked.
Something might not have been taken but someone certainly was here.
