I hadn't been there for more than two seconds before Eragon and Murtagh decided to go on the chase again. I mean, come on guys! Can't we rest for two minutes!!! Nope. The answer is no. Eragon and the elves were catching up on the battle and then suddenly Saphira's voice went off. Eragon!!!
He looked behind him, to where Murtagh used to be, and there was now only Nasuada standing by herself looking very unhappy. Eragon ran to Saphira and mounted. I ran after him, but the "Fate-flashy-thing" takes a lot of energy out of you. Like when you've been in a sauna for 12 hours that's in a school bus for 6 hours with 4 people to one seat with no airconditioning in the middle of the summer in Death Valley in a forest fire next to an erupting volcano in the core of the planet that has been engulfed by the sun!!! Translation: moving seems like the greatest challenge known to man!!!!!!
So when Eragon and Saphira took off and I tried to chase them.... well, you guess how well that went. See, in the book, Eragon and Saphira were going to chase Thorn and Murtagh until they were forced to land behind a small hill a couple miles from the city. Was I going to walk that far in my condition? Nope. I was going anywhere right now? NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!! This was also the last time in the entire book series we see Murtagh again. I sat there thinking, and came to the conclusion it was better like this. I didn't like saying goodbye to people, so this way we don't have to go through that!!! We'll just always stay good friends who never, ever see each other!! Yeah!!!
Unfortunately, Fate did not have the same idea. She decided it was very important to say goodbye to Murtagh. So about 12 seconds after I had these thoughts, Fate did the flashy thing again. I appeared between Murtagh and Eragon, who were have a cute little half-brother to half-brother moment. They stepped back. "Sadie?" they both asked at the exact same time.
"We mean, what are you doing here?" Murtagh finished.
At this point, I was on the ground, lying on my back. I couldn't move, it was hard to breath, and I was still expected to do the job I had been sent here to do. I looked at them with my pitiful puppy-dog eyes. "Would you PLEASE help me up? I really can't move that well right now."
They each took one arm and picked me up. I was set on my feet, and then they let go. That was a mistake. I was up, and then I was down again, my face meeting the grassy surface below me. They helped me up again, this time, concerned.
"Sadie, you're sure you're okay?" Eragon asked.
"Oh yeah, sure. I'm great. I just feel like a wet spaghetti noodle, that's all." As they had no idea was spaghetti was, you can imagine their confusion, but back to the real reason I was there....
I looked Murtagh straight in the face, "So, you're preparing to leave, huh?"
He looked down like he was sorry and was ashamed of it, but was still going to do it anyway because he wanted to.
"That's what I thought," I said, "but before you go, I need to give you something. A gift."
Eragon stepped away, to give me and Murtagh our last goodbyes, which I disliked because I now only had one arm holding me up. Sure, it was a good strong Murtagh arm, but an arm can only hold you up so long before you go tumbling back to the floor where you started.
Another thing you should know, I had no idea what I was saying!!! A gift? What gift!?! I have no gift!! I have nothing to give this guy!!! Now he's looking at me expectantly, and I have nothing to give him but a weak noodle hug!!!!!
My left hand started burning, like when the key had first melted there. I lifted my hand and looked down. A replica key was slowly oozing out of my hand and taking shape. I know it was a replica because I could feel the other key, in the same hand, underneath the skin boiling like lava!!! The key slowly solidified into a small, single key. I held it out to Murtagh, still having no idea what I was doing. "Here."
