Nine months had quickly gone by, faster than I expected. Surge was careful not to go near me, since last time he left with a broken nose. To be entirely honest, I was pretty scared. The closer it got to the due date, the more worried I became. Being a parent is something I've always been afraid of, now I don't have a choice. I'm just afraid I'll screw things up for him. After eight months, Ashton and I decided on a name. Eric seemed like a pretty good idea that he thought of, so we went with that. I had continued to coach through the entire thing, even though the previous week they told me to stay home. It'll be fine. That was all I ever said. Considering I was a bit overdue, I can see where they are coming from.Around three in the morning, on November 8th, I felt Eric moving around quite a bit, not thinking much of it. At least not until it turned into a sharp, contracting pain. I woke up quickly, hands on my stomach. No....no it's fine....it's perfectly fine, you can leave for work, come home, and this won't happen today. Ashton had started waking up, probably since I jerked awake. Staying as still as possible, I waited until he fell asleep.
Around 6 in the morning, we both fully woke up. The pain hadn't stopped, but I will not tell him about this.
"Morning baby." I had been throwing on my usual clothes, biting my lip. "Morning." He turned me around to face him, hands on my shoulders. "Are you okay?" I nodded slowly, grabbing my keys. "Yeah...I'm fine." Walking to the door, ash came with me, since he was going to see the boys. "Want a ride over?" I held my truck keys, putting my phone in my pocket. "Um, sure." We both got in the car, shutting the doors at the same time. As I started the engine, the pain, which I thought had receded, came back. My hands gripped the steering wheel, my lip almost bleeding. "Baby? Are you sure you're okay?" Ash spoke softly, taking my hand. "Yes...I'm sure." "You don't seem okay." Well, maybe because I'm not. "It's fine, he's just...moving around a lot is all." Ash raised an eyebrow, nodding. "Alright then." I drove him over as quickly as I could, putting the truck in park. He pecked my lips, speaking softly. "I love you. Call me if you need anything." "I will. I love you." He got out of the truck, heading inside. I drove off towards the school, hoping to God nothing happens. As usual, my luck ran out pretty soon. Around eight or nine in the morning, I was working in my office, when my water had broken. Oh fuck. "Lacey?" She was one of the assistant coaches, who had the office next to mine. "Yeah Yasmin?" I gripped the edge of my desk, speaking in a strained tone. "I need your help with something. I think my water just broke." She pretty much ran in, helping me get things situated. "You better head home. Right now." "Lacey, it's fine. Really. I can work the next class." She shook her head slowly, looking at me. "You need to get home, really." "I will coach the junior high boys, then I'll head home, alright?" She sighed heavily. "Fine, but the second you get another contraction, go home." She left the office, as did I.
"Constant sprints. Thank the idiots already running for messing up one of the offices for this." The boys had started running, while I sat at the desk in the front of the gym. My stomach started contracting again, but the same thing had happened a little bit earlier, so I didn't really care. Except for the fact that it hurt like hell. I gripped the desk, hoping the pain would subside, but, as usual, it didn't. One of the boys, Bryson, who knew ash personally, stopped running and came up to me. "Coach V, is everything okay?" I nodded slowly, looking at the desk. "Yeah, now keep running, alright?" "No you are not, and I'd rather run all day than not help." I tried dismissing him multiple times, until I just didn't care anymore. "Fine, it's just a little pain is all." "Coach V, this is not just a little pain. How long has this been going on?" I tried to think of when the pain first started, clenching my jaw. "Three a.m." He shook his head, looking up at me. "You need to go home and tell ash, this isn't something you can blow off." "Bryson, it's fine, really." He wouldn't take no for an answer, and I could tell. This kid never stops. Right as another wave of pain hit, I decided it might be best to deal with this with ash. "Fine, you're in charge until one of the coaches gets in here. Until then, keep running." He nodded, taking off. I grabbed my keys and phone, walking out of the gym. "Lacey, watch the boys for me." She headed for the gym, understanding what was going on. I got back into my truck, gripping the steering wheel. Okay, this is happening. Just get home, then deal with it. I drove back, calling ash.
"Hi baby! You alright?" I bit my already sore lip, concentrating on the road. "Yeah. Um...can I meet you outside?" "Yes, what's wrong?" "I'll tell you when I get there, just wait outside." He said goodbye, hanging up. I set my phone down, finally reaching the house. I parked the truck, seeing ash run up to it. Opening the door, he took my hand. "Baby? What's going on?" "I think you can kinda tell." He nodded, squeezing my hands. I cannot believe this is actually happening. Yes, I'm excited, but this is one of my greatest fears. And I now have to face it.

"Okay...I thought so...lets get you inside." Helping her out of the truck, I felt the color start draining from my face. I was trying to stay calm, yet I was pretty much losing it. Oh shit. This is actually happening. I'm gonna be a daddy. My mind was going to fifty places at once, all at the same time. "Ash, what the literal fuck are we gonna do?" I hadn't even thought about that. What are we going to do? Going to a regular hospital is a very last resort, and there is no way in hell she would see surge. "I don't know, but we have to do something." "No shit." She held onto my hand, as I led her inside. Yasmin seemed pretty aware of things, but was still in pain, so she did need some help. I then remembered the only person who knew about this.
Liz.
She was the only person who came to mind, so we agreed on calling her. "Yes?" "Hey...can you come over?" I held onto her hand, trying to stay calm. "Of course, is everything okay?" My voice slightly cracked as I said this, mainly since I might have lost it. "Not really. The baby's coming." She seemed pretty calm about it, I'm not sure how. "Alright, what all has happened?" I handed the phone to Yasmin, waiting for them to finish the call. She handed me the phone, biting her lip. Honestly, I had no clue what to do, but hopefully things go okay.
