When his breathing became more frantic, I stood straight up, scared he was hurt. I wasn't reassured until he opened his eyes fully. I sighed softly, standing besides the table. He smiled up at me, slowly reaching for my hand. I took it as carefully as physically possible. "Hi baby. Are you okay?" I spoke in a soft voice so he wasn't bothered. Ash nodded slowly, rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. "I'm so sorry baby. I shouldn't have been there. I'm so fucking sorry you're hurt."
Michael had left after they told us that ash should be okay. He called Calum and let him know before he drove home. I stayed with him, sitting directly next to him the entire time. It was a few hours before he woke up, yet it would've been worse if he woke up earlier.
For the next few hours, he drifted in and out of consciousness, until he finally woke up fully. I was standing next to him, feeling my heart sink.
I had almost killed him.
I promised to love him forever.
And I tried to kill him.
He's never done anything wrong.
And I tried to fucking kill him.

He kissed my hand softly, smiling. I finally spoke up after spending a minute trying to find my voice.
"I love you ash. I feel like such a fucking idiot for letting this happen, and I hate myself for it-" Amongst other things- "and I'm so sorry you're in this much pain. I'm such a terrible person, I'm sorry."
He sighed softly, speaking in a quiet voice. "Babe, don't talk about yourself like that. It's okay baby, it's okay." He pulled me down a bit, pecking my lips. "I love you." "I love you." I glanced down at him, just as a doctor came back in. "He should be cleared in a bit, do you feel okay Ashton?" He nodded, slowly sitting up. I kept my hand on his back to support him.
The doctor sat next to him, and I could tell she was checking for a concussion. "Where are you?"
"A hospital." He kept his eyes on me.
"Why are you here?"
"My wife brought me in." He never looked away.
"What is your full name?"
"Ashton Fletcher Irwin." He squeezed my hand.
"Do you know what day it is?"
"She told me it's April 19th." He nodded.
"What is the name of the person closest to you?"
"Yasmin Irwin." He kept his eyes straight on me.
"What's her middle name Ashton?"
"She never told me." He squeezed my hand again.
"What are your children's names?"
"Eric and Marilyn." He spoke quickly.
"Can you focus on me Ashton?"
He looked straight up at her, his hand gripping mine. I whispered in his ear "it's okay baby. It's okay. Calm down." She nodded, standing up. "He should be good. You can leave when he's up to it." The doctor left the room quickly and closed the door behind her. I kissed his forehead softly, squeezing his hand. "It's okay baby, it's okay. I love you." He nodded slowly, looking up at me. "Baby, what happened there?" He paused for a minute, then looked at me. "I'm sorry I'm hurt baby. It's not your fault. I was so scared they would ask me something and take it the wrong way. You didn't hurt me." I kissed his head, breathing in deeply. "Baby, I'm sorry. But I wish I could've stopped myself. That's happened since I was sixteen when I died. I should've left. You shouldn't be here right now. You should be with the kids." He shook his head, squeezing my hand. "It's okay baby, it's not your fault."
I wish I could believe him.

That morning, Yasmin got me home, muttering apologies the entire time.
I came upstairs to find her with Eric, holding him on her arm, both of them looking down at Marilyn. She smiled, glancing at him. "Hey sweetie, don't ever let anybody mess with you. Don't let them make you feel bad okay? Just promise me you won't let others hurt you." He nodded, not understanding what she was talking about. I frowned a bit, looking at them.
"What are you talking about mommy?" "Hun, sometimes, people aren't very nice. And that makes you do mean things to yourself. Don't ever do that. Ever."
I walked a bit closer to them after a minute of thinking. She set Eric down, who ran off. I took her hand, leading her back into the bedroom. I sat her down, holding her hands.
I finally saw them.
It was worse than before.
She promised to tell me. She promised.
I pulled her down onto the bed, wrapping my arms around her. She sighed softly into my shoulder before hugging me.
She promised to tell me if something was going on with her. Does she not trust me? Did I do something? Is this about last night?
She looked back up at me, then the floor. I carefully took her wrist, kissing across her forearm. She winced under my touch, muscles tensing up. I softly kissed her skin, pulling her closer. "Baby no. Stop."
She sighed softly, hugging me.
I cupped her face, speaking softly. "If you wouldn't hurt me like that, don't hurt yourself like that. Please. I hate seeing you in pain." She glanced down, staying silent. I pulled her down onto the bed, rubbing her back slowly. "I love you baby." "I love you ash." My lips formed a smile as I stared at the wall. I thought as to why she wouldn't tell me.
I won't ever hurt her. She's my life. I just hope things don't get out of hand.

Later that night, while ash was downstairs with cal, I sat on the bed, thinking back to earlier. Just try to ignore everything going on. You can trust ash. He won't try to hurt you like they did.
At least that's what half of my mind thought.
He hates you. Everybody does. Why bother?
That part won me over.
My thoughts were interrupted by Marilyn softly crying.
I stood up, walking over to where she was. She had been sleeping a minute ago, yet she must have been woken up by the small crash from across the hall thanks to Luke.
I carefully picked her up, keeping her close. "It's alright sweetie, I'm right here, it's okay."
She settled down slightly, looking up at me. I kissed her head, smiling. "It was just a little noise. It'll be okay."
I sat down on the bed with her, speaking softly. "You resemble your father so much darling." She only giggled. I rubbed her cheek softly with my thumb, smiling. "See? All better now."
She put her hand over mine, holding onto me. I giggled quietly, kissing her head. After a minute, she fell asleep in my arms. I smiled, staying still so she wouldn't wake up.
She seems so innocent and sweet. I hope to god nothing ever happens to her.
