"Nearly six," said Ron, checking his watch and then staring down the drive that led to the front gates. "How d'you reckon they're coming? The train?"
"I doubt it," said Hermione.
"How, then? Broomsticks?" Harry suggested, looking up at the starry sky while making sure to keep a tight grip on his little sister's hand. He didn't care whether or not Professor McGonagall had said that first years needed to be in front when the other schools arrived. She could get lost in a crowd this big and with Malfoy and his goons now teamed up with Weston and his friends, there was no way he was going to let her out of his sight.
"I don't thinks so... not from that far away..."
"A Portkey?" Ron suggested. "Or they could Apparate - maybe you're allowed to do it under seventeen wherever they come from?"
"You can't Apparate inside the Hogwarts grounds, how often do I have to tell you?" Said Hermione impatiently.
As they scanned the darkening grounds, a chilly October breeze blew past them making Alison shiver. Due to McGonagall's rush to get everyone outside, she had left her coat hanging on a chair in her and Harry's bedroom.
Harry quickly pulled off his cloak and wrapped it around her. "Here you go." Wouldn't want you to catch a cold."
She shook her head and tried to give it back even though deep down, she was grateful for the warmth it provided her cold little body. "Then you'll be cold Harry."
He chuckled and shook his head. "You're the one wearing a skirt, I'm sure you're much colder than me."
She nodded and pulled the cloak around her tighter when another breeze blew past them. "Harry how much longer do we have to-"
"Aha! Unless I'm mistaken, the delegation from Beauxbatons approaches!" Dumbledore called out from the back row where he stood with the other teachers.
"Where?" Said many students eagerly, all looking in different directions.
"There!" Yelled a sixth year, pointing over the forest.
Something large, much larger than a broomstick - or, indeed a hundred broomsticks - was hurtling across the deep blue sky toward the castle, growing larger all the time.
The front three rows of students drew backward as the carriage hurtled ever lower, coming in to the land at a tremendous speed. A second later, the carriage landed, bouncing upon its vast wheels, while the golden horses tossed their enormous heads and rolled large, fiery red eyes.
Harry picked up Alison who had began to jump up and down, complaining about how she couldn't see just in time to see the carriage doors open and a shoe the size of a child's sled emerge from inside the carriage. It was almost immediately followed by a large woman they had ever seen in their lives. No wonder the carriage and horses were so big!
