Hermione's leg bounced anxiously as she sat on a couch in the living room, staring at the clock above the fireplace. In front of her on the floor lay Ron and Fred playing Wizard's Chess, Sirius was in an arm chair to her right, also looking as anxious and worried as she felt.
She knew the Wizarding Laws very, very well, she had read nearly every book she could find on them, and knew while Harry had used magic outside of school and in front of a Muggle while underage, there were loopholes that could overlook all that because he had only done so to save his, Alison's and their cousin's life from a dementor attack. But she was still afraid they wouldn't care or listen to them. The Ministry has been fighting so hard to keep Voldemort's return a secret and a dementor attack on the Potters wouldn't help their case at all.
She and Sirius jumped to their feet when they heard the front door open, Ron and Fred's heads jerking up to the direction of the noise. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the Potter siblings walk in with smiles on their faces.
"You got off!" Ron cheered, jumping to his feet. "I knew you would! You're always getting away with everything!"
Sirius smiled softly as he pulled his godson into a hug. "Well done Harry." He whispered.
Harry's smile wavered a little. He could tell Sirius wasn't too thrilled about the news. He had been so lonely being practically held prisoner in his old house; he had probably been hoping Harry would have to stay here with him for the school year.
Hermione pulled him away into a tight hug of her own before he could say anything though. "I was afraid they wouldn't let you back in school!"
He chuckled as he hugged his best friend back. "Me too. But Dumbledore showed up and changed their minds."
"Dumbledore was there?" Ron asked, walking over. "Did he try to get them to accept the fact that You-Know-Who is back?"
"Yes." Alison answered. "But the Minister wasn't having any of it."
"'Course he wasn't." Sirius said unhappily. "No matter how many signs, how many people have told him, no matter the evidence, he refuses to see the truth."

"Oh come on Harry, it's not your fault he's upset." Ron whispered as they walked behind Mad-eye and Sirius in dog form to the train station. "He's been cooped up in that dreadful place all summer and was probably hoping you'd be a prisoner there too."
"Which isn't fair." Hermione huffed quietly. "You should be at Hogwarts under Dumbledore's watch where it's safe. Where you can learn to defend yourself."
"I don't think you guys understand." Harry muttered irritably, watching his godfather closely to make sure he couldn't hear their conversation. "His parents abused him in that house. He ran away from there when he was our age. Then he went to Azkaban for years even though he didn't do anything wrong. He doesn't like being held prisoner again, especially in that awful place."
"And after what your mother said, he's been trying awfully hard to be closer with us." Alison whispered, looking up at Ron. "He feels like he's let us and our parents down for what happened."
"But that wasn't his-"
"What are you doing lad?" Moody's harsh whispering interrupted Hermione. "You're going to blow the entire operation!"
Harry looked up and saw Sirius had suddenly made a sharp right turn down some stairs and into an abandoned store. He and his sister shared a look before quickly following him, ignoring everyone's whispered pleas for them to come back.
