The Fighter
One of the first Gladers, Madeline arrived at the age of 12 with her "family" and one other family. Two children were given a set of "parents". Her and one other boy of the age of 10 named Peter. They arrived with their "parents", along with memory wiped, just like everyone else. The time they stood afraid and wondering where they were was short. The parents immediately began to build shelters and create gardens with the supplies that came up with them in the Box.
Life became normal with Madeline and her relationship with Peter blossomed. They were somewhat content in the Glade. They had family, and each other. Until, they saw a Griever for a brief moment, they knew it wasn't safe out in the maze. Madeline's father was a trained soldier, and he knew that the children would need to learn how to fight, so he began teaching them, to have them ready for any sudden danger.
Years went by and things got lonely, but Madeline was content. She had learned to be an amazing fighter and she was strong, but after 3 years trapped in the maze... one day, it all started, and her world slowly began to crash down, never to be brought back up.
*
*Out exploring the Maze one day, the walls of the maze shut early, leaving all of them, both families, including Madeline's pregnant mother, in the maze. of course, there was no way out. and when night came, they were all ready to fight the Grievers they knew were coming for them.
Eventually, one did come. Then another, and another, until there were 5 surrounding them. Eventually, Madeline's father instructed her and Peter to just run, and so they did reluctantly, running as hard as they could, turning left and right, not caring where they were going, just to get away. Madeline had full trust in her dad, and that he could protect her mom and the other family.
After they had been running for what felt like hours, Madeline heard a sharp cry behind her with a following sound of someone screaming her name. The scream was full of pure terror. Madeline skidded to a stop and looked behind her to see Peter being dragged away by a Griever. She screamed after him and ran. Once she caught up, she took her long and thick spear that she had trained with and smashed it against the Griever's sluggish body.
"Put him down!!!!" She screamed. The griever squealed an inhuman squeal and raised one of its nasty mechanical legs, threatening to slice her in half. Madeline was ready to defend herself, when she suddenly heard a scream that sounded like one of agony over in the distance. She knew it was her family.
As she looked over in the distance, She felt a slice over her left eye. She screamed in pain and realized the angry Griever had cut her. She stumbled back and fell to the floor, her whole left side of her face throbbing in agony. She felt blood fall down her face, but she snapped out of her daze when she heard Peter cry out to her and he was being pulled away again. They rounded the corner and were gone.
"Oh no." Madeline felt defeated, she couldn't let her best friend, almost lover, die to the things that haunted her sleep. She got up, ignoring the pain in her face and ran at full speed after them.
She ran around the corner after them but Peter and the Griever were gone, although she still heard the paralyzingly screams from him.
"Peter!" She yelled, but it turned more into cracked cry of hopelessness. Her breath was heavy as she kept running at full speed in the direction the screams were coming from. Madeline felt tears form in the corners of her eyes as she continued to listen to Peter's screams. She wanted to rip the Griever in half and lie on the ground hugging her beloved friend, crying with him. But that wasn't the case, she had to save him first.
