The next few moments were a blur to Madeline and her body was limp in the hands of Newt and Minho. She had stopped screaming and fighting and the only thing she felt was shock, confusion and sadness.

The two boys pulled her outside and Madeline heard her name being called. She didn't feel like answering and instead stared out into the Glade. She felt a pair of strong arms grab her waist and pull her to the ground. She sat and realized that her and Newt were sitting near the fire pit.

"Maddie."

"I don't feel like talking." She looked away.

"You don't have to talk, but you're gonna listen to what I have to say." Newt was obviously upset and Madeline looked up at him.

"I know this is hard for you. It's hard for all of us. Tommy betrayed everyone, you especially. But you know what?" Newt threw a thumb over his shoulder pointing back to the infirmary.

"All of that... is in the past. And right now, we have to focus on getting out of this bloody maze." He paused and searched for a reaction on Madeline's face which was returned with a mournful stare.

"The past..." She whispered.

Newt sighed. "Listen to me, the people we were before the maze, they're dead. They don't even exist anymore. This is who we are now." Madeline gave him a blank expression.

"So Peter never existed?" She was turned off by the entire conversation. An expression of hurt flashed across Newt's face and there was silence.

"That's not what I meant... I'm sorry." Madeline looked away suddenly. She felt extremely nauseous.

"I think I'm gonna go lie down. I don't feel well." She stood up weakly and Newt's eyes followed her.

"You don't look well."

"Thanks." With that, Madeline walked away.

Before she knew it, she was sprawled out on her hammock. She stared up at the ceiling, listening to the sounds of the Glade. In the distance she heard the sound of yelling and she tried to identify who it was, but to no prevail. She wanted to fall asleep and escape the pain that was burning her entire body.

Her nausea had gotten worse and her whole body ached. She had begun to felt sick starting right after her and Thomas barely made it alive out of the maze. She began to have dreams of her life before the Maze that haunted her constantly.

Honestly, she just wanted someone to hold her as she cried. But no one was there for her. The only person that would want to comfort her was Thomas and he was the reason Madeline wanted to cry.

He killed Peter. Because of love? Madeline couldn't wrap her head around the fact that Thomas would kill someone because of jealousy. Thomas would have had to hate Peter so much and been so heartless that he could press a button and watch an innocent boy die a gruesome death. It made Madeline cringe. The pain and betrayal she felt inside of her was overwhelming. Of course she knew that Thomas had betrayed her before by putting her in the maze, but she had put that memory behind her.

Although, when it came to Peter, Madeline knew she could never forgive what Thomas did to him. Never. She rolled side to side in her hammock, squeezing her eyes shut, but sleep wouldn't come to her. She had far too much on her mind. It took a while before she realized that the yelling had gotten louder and closer.

Luckily, the Homestead wasn't a building, just a roof that protected the boys at night. This made it easy for Madeline to look and see who was making all the noise. Her heart sunk when she realized that Thomas, Gally and Minho were the ones that were being so loud.
