Or at least, that's what she thought was happening.
"Madeline?" A voice echoed through the abyss of darkness.
"Madeline..?" A voice that was not recognizable. "Madeline, can you hear me? We're going to save you, you're going to be alright, okay? Just hang on..."
Madeline wanted to awake herself, open her eyes, but it was like her eyelids were glued shut along with an intense feeling of drowsiness that kept her from moving.
"Save you.." The voice had said. But they can't save me? Madeline thought wearily in her thoughts, which were a black abyss of nothingness.
I'm already dead! Right?
It was like Madeline had a power switch and someone flipped it "Off". She suddenly felt her head fall to the side as an extreme sleepiness fell over her. She thought she could have felt a sharp object prick her arm just moments before but she wasn't sure. Her whole body felt numb and she was positive it was all over. She didn't even care to fight the sudden intense drowsy feeling that came over here. Unconsciousness hit her with all its force and her mind faded away.

Madeline snapped awake, automatically bolting upright in her now different hospital bed. Before she could even get a good look at her surroundings, she noticed. There was an eerie silence that was hanging in the air. But it wasn't the fact that there was no one else present in the room... it was her head.It felt... clear.
The oh-so-familiar ringing that was constantly playing in Madeline's head... it was gone.
She never felt so... good. She felt energized, at peace... free. Madeline slowly raised a finger up to the left side of her head where her chip lied, engraved into her skull behind a scar that marked the opening that had been sewn up to hide where the chip was placed. She pressed, instantly gasping at the sudden pain that shot through her nerves. The scar that was on that part of her head felt raw and sore, like someone had tore at it while she was asleep. She had little time to think about her clarity of mind with the confusion that swept over her violently. Why was she suddenly so....
Then it hit her. She remembered. She remembered everything. Her family, her brother, Peter before the Maze, Thomas before the Maze. Everything. Everybody.
She remembered. They were no longer vague memories but real, clear, thoughts. Madeline laughed in shock. The first real laugh to escape her lips in what felt like forever. She smiled, actually meaning it, and her heart warmed up inside of her. She was alive.
Then, she thought about everyone else. Thomas, Minho, Newt, Frypan, Winston, Peter. Where were they now?
It was like heaven above heard her mental question, because right at that moment, a petrified, terrifying, blood-curdling scream rang out through the air, and Madeline automatically knew who it was.
Peter.
Madeline froze in place, her joy instantly snatched away as fear replaced it. The screams were very distant and muffled, definitely far away, but they were still there. Then there was silence. Madeline stood up, waiting for dizziness to overtake her, but it never came. She paused for a second, a little shocked that she still felt normal, except the scar on the left side of her face being sore.
The scream rang out again and this time, three words came out with it.
"LET ME DIE!"
Madeline snapped her head over to where the sound was coming from, terror slithering into her veins. The screams that were coming from Peter in the distance were so familiar to Madeline that she wanted to cry. They were the same screams that she heard just a few years ago when Peter was killed. Usually, if she were to hear familiar shrieks like this, she would lose her mind or faint at the sudden memory. But now all that came to Madeline was sadness and fear.
She knew she had to do something so she spotted the door across the fairly large infirmary room, immediately sprinting towards it. She slammed the door open, leading to a hallway.
Not shocking. This place was a maze of hallways.
Madeline panicked, wondering which way to go before Peter screamed again, the sound of something shattering proceeding. The sounds were coming from the right, resulting in Madeline taking off running towards them.
As she sprinted down the everlasting hallways, she felt like she did back when she was a little girl. Running through the fields in the Glade, long and tall grass brushing against her legs, her hair flowing in the wind as she ran an imaginary race against herself.
She felt the exact same way as she ran down the dark hallways, she felt free, but at the same time, trapped.
Madeline got lost in her memories, screeching to a halt when she realized that she had passed the door at which it seemed Peter was in. His screams were now millions of times louder. Now there were other voices heard, obviously trying to console Peter to stop yelling.
"Peter! Everything's going to be alright!"
"Just kill me!! I did what I needed to do! I saved her! Don't let me keep living like this!" Peter screamed and Madeline froze.
Who did he save? The answer was obvious.
Madeline busted through the large metal door, not even thinking about what she was doing.
At least ten men and women in white lab coats whipped around to face her. Peter was being held down by four of these people, who were obviously Wicked scientists. Madeline had little time to realize the room was also a "hospital-like" room.
"You're not supposed to be here!" One of the men said.
"Get her out!" Madeline tried to dive around the mob of scientists that tried to seize her, failing when one of them grabbed her arm. Peter shrieked in terror, his voice cracking at the stress against his tired vocal cords.
"Peter!" Madeline yelled, kicking against the two men trying to push her out of the room.
Madeline had never felt so strong. It was probably because now she didn't have dizziness and distant insanity keeping her back.
"Get off me!" She screamed with fierceness, kicking one of the men in the legs, causing him to fall, hitting his head on the corner of a table nearby. All of Madeline's training that her Glade father gave her came back to her suddenly and she and she automatically knew what to do. The other man had both his arms wrapped around Madeline's waist from behind, squeezing her painfully. She grabbed his arm, managing to push it off, twisting it behind him, making it crack loudly.
The man yelled out in pain, releasing Madeline's waist. She whipped around and raised her leg, kicking it straight into the man's middle. He stumbled, proceeding to fall over onto the ground, groaning loudly.
Madeline turned back around, fists clenched, ready for more combat. The doctors were stunned, unsure what to do.
"I'm going to see my friend."
