Chapter 8: Insanity

She didn't know how it happened but suddenly her mind was burning with the screams of "Thomas! Please! Help me!"

She stared at Thomas but she wasn't even thinking about him. Flashback after flashback pounded Madeline's poor brain and she could feel herself getting nauseous.

"I hate you Thomas!" Another flashback came into her mind. One that she hadn't had in a really long time. It was her and Peter sitting in what seemed like a waiting room.

They were wearing hospital robes and Madeline didn't understand why. Peter was gripping Madeline's hand as he sat next to her.

"I can't believe it." Peter's hand shook uncontrollably. Madeline looked over at him with tear stained cheeks. They were both so young.

"What Peter?" Madeline asked, her voice was weak.

"Thomas." Peter said the name in disbelief. "Thomas did this."

Madeline was about to reply when suddenly two men in full battle gear walked in with Ava Paige. Madeline made a face when she saw her.

"it's time you two." Ava Paige smiled and the two men walked over and picked each one of them up by the arm. Madeline wanted to fight them but somehow she felt too weak.

Peter instantly grabbed one of Madeline's hands again but they were too far apart as the men dragged them so all Peter could hold on to was her small fingertips.

Madeline felt nothing as she was being dragged along long hallways and her mind was an abyss of darkness. She felt Peter's soft gaze on her and she looked over at him. Tears filled his eyes but Madeline could tell he was fighting to not cry.

It made Madeline want to cry also. After what seemed like forever, the halted. Madeline turned her head to see there was a door with a sign above it that said "Operation Room 1".

Her heart pounded in terror and she shot Peter a gaze.

"We're gonna be alright. We will be together again really soon." Peter tried to console her but it didn't work and Madeline felt tears rushing to her eyes. Suddenly Madeline was pulled on and her hand was yanked away from Peter's.

"No!" She cried out. Then she realized she was being dragged to another room. Peter reached out and grabbed her wrist before she got too far away. He held on with all the strength he had.

"Please no!" Madeline screamed in horror. Tears dripped down Peter's face.

"You said we would be together when they did surgery!" He yelled at Ava Paige who watched nearby.

"You two will be together again shortly. Madeline has to have extra work done on her brain because it is different than the rest of you. It will be harder to swipe her memories. Which also means some of them may come back while she is in the Maze." Madeline shot Ava Paige a look.

"I hope I do remember! I hope I remember what an evil person you are! Your a witch!" Madeline yelled and gripped Peter's wrist.

Ava Paige was unmoved by Madeline's frantic emotions.

"Let go please, you two. Your only making this harder on yourselves." The man holding Madeline yanked her roughly causing her to almost lose her grip and she screamed in protest.

"Peter please! Please!"She begged and she let go all her tears which she had been holding back for the past few days. Uncontrollable sobs took over  her and Peter held her wrist strongly.

"Madeline. Listen to me. We need to get this over with. I will see you soon. It will all be over and we will be together." It killed Madeline to see him crying like this. He never cried.
