Madeline stuttered on all the words she tried to say, her eyes glued on Thomas' hand on her shoulder.
"I'm... Sorry. I feel really weird today." She stepped back, not to regain her balance, but to ensure that Thomas would have to take his hand off. He did and all the muscles in Madeline's body relaxed.
"Will you be able to do this?" Newt asked softly who was over in the corner leaning on a wooden pole.
"Of course... I'm sorry..." Her voice trailed off as she looked at everyone in the room which included her, Minho, Thomas, Newt and Gally. She could feel the pressure rising in her heart. She leaned forward again over Alby and could feel the anticipation in the room. She placed her hand on Alby's arm to steady him. He squirmed and groaned but he wasn't awake. His eyes were closed but he still moved around on the bed anxiously.
"Stay still, Alby." Madeline whispered as she was about to prick him. Suddenly, he sat up and yelled out with surprising force. Everyone gasped and Madeline stepped back.
"Thomas!" Were his first words. Madeline gulped. She knew what he saw. "Thomas!" He growled in anger. Newt approached him.
"Alby? What's going on? Are you okay?"
Alby cried out when his eyes made contact with Thomas'.
"Why are you here Thomas?" His nasty green veins bulged as he spoke. "You did this. You did this to us!" He spit. Thomas' face paled drastically and he looked like he could drop dead.
"Alby! Calm down!" Newt grabbed Alby's arm. Madeline kneeled down.
"Alby. I'm Madeline, I can save you! Please just settle d-" "Madeline!" Alby yelled and grabbed her shirt.
"You... I remember you..." He spoke softly with deep breaths. "You know... You know what Thomas did to us... to you." He whispered harshly and barely audible. Thomas probably didn't even hear what he said.
"Yes I do.. it's in the past now Alby. That's far away." Madeline felt tears rushing to her eyes.
"No!" Alby suddenly had a burst of emotion and knocked the syringe out of Madeline's hands causing it hit the floor. The glass shattered.
"Oh no." Madeline whispered.
"Shuck it." Newt looked at Madeline. "He's not gonna make it you gotta go back into the maze. Hurry now it's only early afternoon but you would have to rush before the walls close." Madeline swallowed, her hands shaking as she looked at Alby, who was rocking back in forth with his eyes rolling back into his head.
"Go. Now!" Newt yelled and Madeline snapped out of her daze.
"Alright let me get my stuff."
"I'll go with her." Thomas stepped forward.
Madeline locked eyes with him and shook her head.
"Madeline I'm a runner. We'll be fine." Thomas said desperately. Madeline knew all he wanted was to get her to tell him the truth.
"Alright." Madeline sighed. "Let's go."

Madeline had to look a little harder this time to find a serum. Eventually she pulled one out of a box.
"Finally! How does the sky look Thomas?" Madeline had tried to be as nice as possible even though every time she looked at him, memories flooded back to her brain as if to taunt her.
