"Thomas." The words echoed through his mind but all he could see was black.

"Thomas." His vision began to clear and he realized he was sitting in a white room with white furniture.

"Thomas. I need you to make your decision." A blonde woman sat in front of him, her blue eyes staring deep into his.

"I can't do this to her." He felt the words come out of his mouth and he knew they were he his, but at the same time he didn't feel himself saying them. The woman sighed and looked at the ground.

"It is for the best, Thomas. I know how special she is to you. Madeline is special. Her brain is different and she is very strong. She gives us hope for a cure. Do you understand?" Thomas nodded but he felt himself experiencing doubt and fear. "She'll fight you." Thomas rubbed his hands together. The woman nodded.

"Yes she will. That's why she's labeled as The Fighter. We can control her though. Over the years we have struggled to keep Madeline under control when she lashes out. But now, we know her weakness." Thomas looked up, curious.

"What is her weakness?" The woman shifted slightly in her seat.

"Peter." Thomas felt something in his heart. It felt like bitterness... or jealousy.

"Which is why we need to put them in the Maze together. Madeline will still fight us, but not as fiercely because Peter will give in. And Madeline will do anything he says." The woman sighed. Thomas realized he was gripping the table so hard his hands were white. There was a long silence and he felt sick. After a few more moments, the woman startled him out of his thoughts.

"Thomas. What is your decision?" Thomas felt rushed and he didn't like it.

"She could die." His voice was shaky and his emotions were out of control.

"Yes. She could. We can't promise she will live through it."

"Then why should I send her out there?" Thomas yelled. The woman flashed him a stern look.

"It's for a good cause!"

Thomas immediately felt angered by that statement. "A good cause? What if all of this doesn't work? What if innocent people die in your project and you end up not finding a cure?"

"That's a risk we are going to have to take isn't it? Thomas, I have taught you all these years to not get attached to the other students. But you did. It's dangerous. Especially in a world that is dying. You need to let her go Thomas." The woman reached out and grabbed Thomas' shoulder.

"You must always remember... Wicked is good." Thomas felt sick of those words. He felt his hands shaking as the woman looked at him in the eyes, searching for an answer.

Thomas gave a shaky sigh and let out words he never thought he'd say.

"Send them to the Maze."

"Thomas." He heard his name again but this time he was somewhere different. He was standing in a long hallway next to a giant metal door. It looked like it was securely locked and several pass codes and tests had to be put in to enter.

"I need you to see this." The same woman he just saw was back, standing in front of him.

"You are finally going to tell me what this room is for?" Thomas said. He felt weak. Extremely weak and he had trouble standing. Something was different. The woman nodded.

"Let me show you." She went over to the door and began a process of a complex combination to open the door which including finger prints and eye scans. Finally the air seal on the door released and it opened slightly.
