Chapter Nine
Uncle Remus had found out about Harriet’s detention, and of course scolded her. But being Harriet she countered him by telling the whole story and that it wasn’t entirely her fault.
“Well yes you do have a point,” said Uncle Remus, Harriet grinned smugly “but I am still very disappointed about you getting detention.”
“Aren’t you always?” said Harriet as she sat on her usual seat in Uncle Remus’ office, Uncle Remus just smiled as he continued his paperwork
“Harriet dear could you make us some hot chocolate please?” he asked, Harriet stretched as she got up
“Sure,” she said as she headed to the mini kitchen pantry, as she got poured some hot water in two mugs she glanced at a nearby clock; she still had thirty minutes before detention, thirty more minutes to think about how she’ll ask Malfoy if he really helped her,
“Lily?”
“Yes Uncle Remus?”
“I think the water is enough, it’s already overflowing dear.”
Harriet looked down and indeed Uncle Remus was right, not only was the second mug full of water but also the tray that Harriet placed it on. Harriet grumbled as she pulled out her wand, but Uncle Remus held up a hand,
“Let me do it,” he said; he pointed his wand, not bothering to stand from his seat casted the spell and poof the tray was dry as before. Harriet then continued to make their hot chocolate in silence, still thinking about her confrontation with Malfoy.
“Is there something wrong Harriet?” asked Uncle Remus as Harriet stirred their drinks, Harriet snorted
“No,” she said “what makes you think that?”
“Because,” said Uncle Remus eyeing the hot chocolate from his desk “you just added salt in the hot chocolate instead of sugar.”
Harriet realized her mistake and cursed
“Language Lily,” said Uncle Remus, Harriet grumbled an apology “Now tell me. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Harriet said, looking down at her feet.
“Lillian.” Said Uncle Remus sternly, Harriet then looked up
“Fine! Fine!” she cried “I’ll tell you!”
Uncle Remus grinned smugly
“I thought so,” he said, Harriet then took a deep breath and told in a very fast pace what had happened with her detention with Malfoy the other night, not even bothering to pause. Uncle Remus was of course used to this kind of storytelling, Harriet had a way of telling stories this way whenever she was nervous, scared, or trying to find an answer.
“And McGonagall said I could leave! But I swear on Merlin’s beard I fell asleep when I was on my twelfth paper!” Harriet finished, Uncle Remus folded his hands neatly on his desk
“Well maybe Draco helped you.” He said honestly, Harriet laughed
“Yeah right!” she said “Malfoy? Help me? What is the apocalypse coming or something?”
Uncle Remus shrugged
“You said yourself you talked to him honestly earlier that night right?”
Harriet thought about it for a moment
“Yeah…” she said quietly “And I asked McGonagall if I can check my papers… The hand writing was kinda different…”
Uncle Remus then smiled
