Chapter Nineteen
Harriet swung Malfoy’s Nimbus Two Thousand and one over her shoulder; and headed for the rock she sat on the other day by the lake where she talked with Malfoy, hoping to see him there. She was going to return his broom, she didn’t need it anymore. Harry had ordered a second hand broom and had returned hers already.
As she walked quietly towards the place, a million thoughts swirled in her mind. But only one stood out the most: What would happen if Malfoy found out who she really was? The very thought of it made Harriet feel sick. She knew something bad would happen, for him to understand seemed very unlikely she thought to herself.
“Where are you going?” Harriet’s train of thought was cut short; she looked behind her and saw Malfoy walking up to her. She stopped and waited for him to be beside her.
“I was just about to return you your broom.” She said, handing him his broom. Malfoy’s eyebrows rose,
“I see you’ve gotten back your broom?” he asked. Harriet nodded
“Harry has a new broom, so he doesn’t need mine anymore.” She said a bit quietly
“I still don’t understand why you had to lend yours.” Said Malfoy as he swung his broom over his shoulder,
“I told you,” said Harriet rolling her eyes “It was for the team.”
They then started taking a walk. Harriet felt the need to tell Malfoy the truth but she feared his reaction. She knew it would ruin their friendship and she didn’t want that. But wouldn’t I be lying to him? She asked herself.
“You were being too selfless.” Said Malfoy, Harriet just smiled weakly.
“Yeah, I guess.” She replied with a shrug “But it was worth it.”
They were silent for a few moments, nothing but the sound of their footsteps and the light splashing of the lake was all they can hear.
“Shouldn’t you be having Quidditch practice these days?” Harriet asked looking up at Malfoy
“I am,” he replied “You’re just too busy hanging around Potter to notice.” He gave a mocking smile. Harriet glared at him.
“What are you trying to say?” she asked testily,
“Nothing.” Said Malfoy “I’m just saying you seem quite fond of Potter, that’s all. Too fond if you’d ask me.”
Harriet narrowed her eyes at him and hit him on the arm, Malfoy just laughed. And Harriet playfully hit him on the same arm again, only harder this time.
“Aww, c’mon Evans!” said Malfoy after Harriet had stopped hitting him “You know it’s true.”
Harriet rolled her eyes
“It isn’t.” she said darkly; the thought of her and Harry made her feel like throwing up. He was her brother! She knew that, but of course Malfoy didn’t. “Why do you keep talking about him all of a sudden?”
“Because I know you’re just dying to talk about him.” Said Malfoy “But you’re just shy to say it so I am initiating the subject for you. Go on. Don’t be shy. Start talking about how much you love him, just like everyone else.”
Harriet rolled her eyes
“I don’t love him.” Said Harriet a bit annoyed. She loved Harry as a brother. Not the way Malfoy was implying.
“Well, why do you hang around him a lot then? Huh?”
“Because of Quidditch. Duh.” Harriet replied rolling her eyes. Malfoy opened his mouth to say more but they both heard somebody approaching. They both turned and saw Harry a few feet away from them,
