Chapter Eighteen

“If you didn’t throw those mud balls at Malfoy, we wouldn’t have gotten in trouble.” Harriet said quietly as she and Harry practiced their Cheering Charms on each other by the common room fire. Uncle Remus’ words still stung her.

“Yes, but nobody told you to come back here with me to get into the trouble.” Said Harry; the Cheering Charm removing the annoyance in his voice, Harriet removed the Charm off of him and sighed.

“Fine. I’m sorry.” She said; putting her wand away. She knew she was just adding herself to her brother’s platter of problems consisting of: Buckbeak’s Trial, Quidditch practice, the pressure of having the catch the Snitch in order to win the Quidditch Final in a few days, having Ron and Hermione kiss and make up and of course; Sirius Black.

Harry sighed

“I’m sorry too Harriet,” he said; Harriet just smiled as she got up from her chair and sat next to Harry. Harriet yawned and stretched, they were silent for a few moments.

“I can’t believe you’re friends with Malfoy.” Harry said eventually, Harriet rolled her eyes

“Why not?”

“Because everybody hates him.” Harry said, in a tone as if every normal person should know that.

“Well Ron is friends with Hermione and he isn’t the brightest of the bunch like her, isn’t he?”

“That’s not what I was trying to say.” Said Harry, a little bit irritably

“Well what were you trying to say?” Harriet said testily

“Nothing!” Harry cried; a couple of First Years that were near them ran away in fear. “Why are you defending him all of a sudden? You used to hate him.”

“I used to. Things change. ” Harriet pointed out “He isn’t that bad….” She added quietly

“Isn’t that bad?” Harry repeated “Do you know what he calls Hermione?”

“He doesn’t call her that anymore!” Harriet argued “When was the last time he did?”

Harry fell silent.

“See.” Harriet said

“Still. That can’t undo what he did before.”

“Nobody can undo what they have done before.” Harriet said, rolling her eyes. “Can’t you just accept the fact that he actually, by some miracle; has a heart?”

“No.”

Harriet rolled her eyes again as she got up

“Really mature Harry.” She said “And you were supposed to be the older one.”

“Where are you going?” Harry asked as he watched his little sister head out of the common room.

“I’m gonna take a walk.” She said; waving a hand dismissively.

“Wait!” Harry called “Meet me by the Entrance Hall by three; we’re going to Quidditch Practice together! Got it?”

“Yeah, yeah.” Said Harriet; not even bothering to stop.

Once she was out of the common room, she glanced at her watch; it was half past three, there was still more she could do before Quidditch practice. She thought of Uncle Remus, but she then remembered he still might be upset with her; she then sighed and headed towards the Entrance Hall and out to the lake.

“What to do, what to do…” Harriet mumbled as she walked, looking up at the clear sky occasionally. She had better things to do, like homework or practicing Professor Flitwick’s Cheering Charms; but she surprisingly didn’t want to. Like Harry, she had other things on her mind. Things she knew that weren’t really important and yet she kept thinking about them.
