Chapter Ten
Harriet found her new found friendship with Malfoy a bit odd, but a bit nice at the same time. They didn’t mind each other during classes or when they passed each other in the halls they only talked in detention. Harriet was also finding detention much less of a burden now considering she doesn’t hate the person suffering it with her now,
“God this is tiring!” said Harriet as she rested her face onto the desk and rubbing her writing hand. Malfoy just smirked
“Well don’t expect me to finish your work for you if you fall asleep again.” He said as he continued writing, Harriet rolled her eyes. She had to admit, she did thought of falling asleep again and seeing if Malfoy would finish her lines for her again. “You’d better get starting again Evans.” Harriet groaned as she sat up properly again, she did as she was told considering that he was right anyways.
“Why do you hate Harry?” Harriet asked suddenly, out of the blue. Malfoy raised his eyebrows as he continued writing
“Why do you ask?”
Harriet shrugged
“Just curious.” She said honestly, Harriet had always wanted to ask him that question now was her chance considering they were getting along now.
“Well because during our First Year I actually considered being friends with him,” said Malfoy still writing “turned me down obviously. And well maybe because I find it annoying that he gets so much credit just because of a stupid scar on his forehead.”
Harriet had a feeling Malfoy wasn’t one of those people who usually open up to others, even to his friends. So she found it quite odd that he just told her that. She took this as a sign of trust and just smiled, as she continued writing her lines
“Maybe you’re jealous?” she asked, Malfoy snorted
“Shut up.” Said Malfoy, Harriet laughed. She knew she was right but decided to let it slide, it was just going to be another cause of argument if she continued on.
“What about you?” asked Malfoy as he stopped writing, massaging his writing hand; Harriet raised her eyebrows as she started on a new paper
“What about me?” she asked, Malfoy smirked and Harriet knew it was her turn to be questioned
“I can see you don’t get along with Granger much,” he said conversationally. Harriet could tell Malfoy found this quite entertaining and rolled her eyes
“Well not really,” she said honestly, Malfoy then grinned making Harriet laugh
“Why not?” he asked, Harriet stopped writing and rested her chin under her hand. Why didn’t they get along? Harriet heaved a sigh, should she confide in Malfoy her new “friend”? She never really had a friend who she could tell things about before, the only person she could rely on that was Uncle Remus. Besides him, no one. Harriet shrugged, might as well give it a chance
“Well I think she finds it annoying I’m active in classes as much as her,” she said simply as she went back to writing “She’s been really rude to me after the first day of classes.”
“Ah yes,” said Draco as he rested his head behind his hands, making his chair stand on two legs “Granger the insufferable know-it-all do excuse her, she has difficulty with some things considering she’s a mudblood and all it’s kinda hard on her.”
“There was no need for the rude language.” Said Harriet, hitting Malfoy on the arm. Malfoy rolled his eyes as he rubbed his arm
“It’s not rude if it’s true Evans,” he said as he resumed writing his lines, Harriet sighed
“Well it isn’t her fault now is it?” she said, Malfoy looked at her in confusion
“You know what Evans?” he asked “I don’t get you. I mean Granger treats you like scum and yet here you are telling me off to stop calling her a mudblood.”
“It’s just unfair.” Said Harriet simply as she finished her fifteenth paper “Just don’t use that word around me alright?” Malfoy rolled his eyes but nodded
