Chapter Thirty

“Do you really have to go?” Harriet asked Uncle Remus for the hundredth time, Uncle Remus sighed and nodded

“Yes, Harriet.” He said, a bit tired “you know why.” Harriet just sighed as she looked out the window and watched the Whomping willow sway in a light breeze. The Black lake was shimmering; Harriet still remembered yesterday’s happenings vividly as if they just happened a few minutes ago.

“So it is true…” Harriet said; Uncle Remus looked at her curiously as he continued piling his things

“What’s true?” he asked

“That jinx.” Harriet said “I’ve been hearing stories all year about the Defense Against the Dark Arts post being jinxed… They said nobody lasts longer than a year.” Uncle Remus just smiled

“I thought you don’t believe in those ‘old wives tales’?” Uncle Remus asked; Harriet rolled her eyes

“I’m just trying to convince you to stay.” Harriet said, “Everybody loves you here, you don’t know how many people have told me you’re the best Defense teacher they’ve ever got. And believe me, a lot of people have told me.”

“Well, they wouldn’t think that when word gets out about my condition now would they?” Uncle Remus said, he looked up at Harriet who still looked like she wanted to continue protesting,

“You’ll still come back here next year, don’t worry.” he told her,

“It won’t be the same without you.” She whined; Uncle Remus smiled as he patted her head

“You’ll still see me during the holidays and all that,” he said “besides, you should be happy. You can get all the detention you want without me being there to add to the people who’ll be scolding you.” Harriet couldn’t help but smile

“Okay, fine I’ll admit that’s kinda nice…” she mumbled “But that’s not the point.”

“I think you have other things to worry about,” Uncle Remus said; Harriet looked at him confusedly. Uncle Remus was staring at the Marauder’s map

“What do you mean?” she asked

“Harry’s coming.” He said “Have you made your decision yet?”

Harriet then remembered about the plan she and Uncle Remus thought of. She looked up at Uncle Remus, who smiled,

“But… what about you?”

“It will only be a few weeks every summer, a few days if you want.” Uncle Remus said encouragingly “You’ll still see me, more often than them actually.” Harriet smiled

“I’ve made my choice then.” She said; Uncle Remus smiled once more as Harriet walked over beside him. Harriet glanced at the Marauder’s map and saw Harry’s dot just outside Uncle Remus’ office door, she looked up at Uncle Remus who nodded, and Harriet looked towards the door while Uncle Remus continued packing

“Hello Harry,” Uncle Remus greeted, Harry jumped back in surprise, Harriet just laughed at her brother. Uncle Remus turned and stopped packing for a while “We saw you coming.” He said; Harry’s eyes then landed on the map that was lying on the desk, Harry nodded and looked back at Uncle Remus

“I’ve looked worse, believe me.” He said; Harriet nodded in agreement. Harry then started to stare at the open drawers and bare bookshelves

“You’ve been sacked.” He said

“Resigned, actually.” Uncle Remus corrected.

“Resigned? But why!” Harry cried

“It seems someone has let slip of my condition.” Uncle Remus said; Harriet’s face darkened, the whole school didn’t know Uncle Remus’ condition yet, but a couple have already heard. The worst part of it was, the people that have heard it were Slytherins.
