"Come on, Demon!" Homeless and a runaway, 6 year old Kailee giggled.

Demon was her small, two month old German Shepard. He would get bigger as he grew. He was still a pup.

Kailee was in her demon form and Demon was too.

Kailee had pitch black eyes and all of her teeth were sharp and pointed. The tips of her hair were blue fire as it flamed behind her.

Demon was a green skeleton dog with a misty like edge to him. Green fire sprouted from his eyes and nose. His teeth were also sharper.

Kailee and Demon ran side by side, lighting up the dark, empty town.

"Guys, I just found this really illegal drug. It's said to be really strong. Want to try it?" Kailee and Demon heard men talking in an alleyway nearby.

"Sounds good to me." Another said.

Kailee giggled. She looked at Demon and whispered. "It's our dinner!"

Demon wagged his long, skeletal tail happily in agreement.

Demon and Kailee made their way to the start of the alleyway. The men didn't notice them, so Demon barked.

The men turned around and their eyes went wide with shock and fear at seeing the demons.

"Hi!" Kailee said insanely happy. "My dog and I are kind of hungry. Do you have any food?"

The men shook, but one was brave enough to speak. "Um, no we don't. I'm sorry."

Kailee pouted and Demon's wagging tail drooped. "Oh. Well, that's okay!" She smiled brightly. "We can just have your souls!"

The men screamed in terror as their souls were sucked from their bodies.

No one heard them.

Kailee sighed as she threw the body to the ground. Demon dropped his corpse from his mouth.

"I'm so sorry." She whispered.

The only reason she laughed and acted happy was so that she didn't have to feel as bad.

Demon licked her cheek, in a comforting way.

It didn't work.

Now, twelve year old Kailee and her six year old, full grown German Shepard, Demon, walked along the town they had come across in the six years they'd been traveling.

Both were in their normal forms as people glanced at their attire.

"Hey, kid. Your dog needs to be on a leash." Kailee turned around to find an officer staring her down.

"I don't have one, sir." Kailee told him. Demon scooted closer to Kailee, prepared to protect her at any cost.

"And why not?" He asked.

"I'm homeless." Kailee said.

The officer was taken back by the bluntness, but regained composure. "How long?"

"Six years, sir. Since I was six and Demon was two months." Kailee replied.

The officer raised his eyebrow at the dog's name, but nodded. "There's a foster care not far from here. You'll have to go."

Kailee nodded. "I figured. But I'll need to take Demon with me."

As the police car pulled up to the foster home, a woman came out of the house.

She was plump with short gray hair and dull green eyes. She was around her sixties.

"Hello. You must be Kailee and Demon." The woman greeted. "I'm Miss Mona. I'll be your caretaker. You can meet all the other kids once we get you two settled in."

Kailee decided she liked Miss Mona because of the fact that she treated Demon like a person, and not just a dog or pet.

Demon wagged his tail. As Demon was a demon, he understood human language. It was useful to both of them. Kailee couldn't speak to Demon, but they were both linked, so they could feel each other's emotions. It helped them communicate to one another.

As Miss Mona led them inside, Demon stayed attached to Kailee's hip in case of any danger that would approach to his friend and caretaker.

After they got settled in, Miss Mona had Kailee meet the rest of the kids.

There were about ten of them. Six boys and four girls, five girls and one dog if you counted Kailee and Demon.

Most of them were nice, but there were two girls who were really snotty and bratty. There names were Savannah and Trisha.

"So," Savannah snootily spoke. "What's the mutt's name?"

"He's not a mutt. He's a German Shepard, but I guess your small brain can't handle that information overload. I hope your brains blow all over the walls." Kailee smiled back innocently. Demon put his head down and let out a small growl that sounded suspiciously like a snicker.

"Excuse you." Trisha snapped, her perfect, red nails pointed at her. "She just asked you a question."

"Fine. If your so persistent. His name's Demon." Kailee said.

"Demon?" Savannah cocked her eyebrow. "That's a horrible name for a dog. I should report animal abuse. A name as bad as that deserves to be reported."

Kailee's fists clenched and her knuckles turned white as she shook. Her eyes flickered pitch black, but Demon growled threateningly at the two snobs before she could do any damage.

The girls shrieked and ran away. Kailee rolled her eyes. 'Pathetic.' She thought.

Kailee and Demon trudged to their new room.

The next few weeks were hectic and
Kailee tended to stay away from the other children, even though they were very nice.

Kids had gotten used to Demon being so protective of Kailee and Savannah and Trisha stayed away from Kailee for the most part after Demon growled at them. It didn't stop them from giving her death glares though.

Miss Mona had signed Kailee up for school so that she could go just like all of the other children in the foster home.

Kailee wasn't too happy with the decision, since she knew it meant leaving Demon's side. Demon knew this too, and he wasn't very happy with it either. Kailee could feel it, literally.

"Dear, it's for the best. Besides, you need an education and Demon won't always be there for you. Dogs don't live the longest lives." Miss Mona told her.

'Demon's different.' Kailee thought. 'He's a demon. He'll live longer than any normal human would.'

Thought it took a while, Kailee finally gave in to the idea.

Kailee and Miss Mona spent the rest of the day organizing her school supplies that had already been bought beforehand.

When night came, Kailee laid on bed, facing the ceiling. Demon lied beside
her, curled up on the bed too.

"I'm going to school tomorrow, Demon." Kailee whispered, stroking the demon dog's head. "Where so many souls will be. Where I'll have to try to not give into my urge, my nature, and desire."

"Where I'll have to hide the demon I really am."
