Kailee threw on a blue beanie that covered the top of her brown hair and a blue tee and jeans. Her grey eyes scanned the room as they landed on Demon.

Demon was full grown by now. He was brown and black with one brown and one blue eye. It was abnormal, but some dogs had it. He only had it because he was a demon, though.

Demon stood up and shook before staring at her. A flood of emotion flowed through her.

Sadness. Pleading.

"I'm sorry Demon. I'm not very excited about this either, but I have to go to school." Kailee sighed.

Demon whimpered and stood on his hind legs to put his paws on her shoulders. He licked her cheek and fell back to the floor.

She smiled and bent down to hug him. Her arms curled around his neck and she buried her face into it.

He put his wet nose on her neck and she smiled into his fur. "I'll see you when I get back Demon. Love you boy." She stood up, rubbed behind his ear, and walked out the door.

She got onto the bus and sat down, watching as the bus drove away from the foster home and Demon.

She let out a breath and closed her eyes, leaning on the cool glass. "This is going to be hell."

The bus ride took a while, but the bus finally stopped in front of a middle school.

Kailee climbed off the bus and took a breath. "First day at school. You can do this. You've faced way more scary things. You can do this."

"I can't do this, I can't do this." She muttered to herself as she stood outside the office.

Kailee fiddled with the handle and eventually pushed the door open.

She walked in and greeted the secretary, got her schedule and locker combination and number before rushing away from the woman.

She regretted not eating any souls after Miss Mona had taken her and Demon in. She hoped Demon was coping well, considering he hasn't consumed any souls lately either.

Her stomach growled at her for food. For souls. She denied it and pushed the hunger down. She would have to wait until tonight.

She opened her locker as the bell rang. Her supplies she had brought to school in her backpack dropped and clattered to the floor at the loud, sudden sound.

She knelt down to pick it up, but a boy beat her to the punch.

After he collected her fallen things, he neatly placed them into her locker and smiled. "You're the new girl?" He asked.

"So what if I am?" Kailee snapped back, but immediately regretted it as she feared the human would hit her. All humans did was hurt her and Demon.

He shrugged. "I definitely wouldn't mind. I'm Tray. What's your name?"

"Kailee." She answered after a few moments of hesitation. If he ended up being anything other than nice to her, she could deal with devouring his soul if anything went wrong.

"Well then Kailee," he said calmly as he snatched her schedule, examining it. "You're in my first period. Welcome to Hathwood Middle School. I'll be your new best friend and tour guide on your first few days here."

Kailee stared blankly at him before smiling sadly. "Thanks."

Despite being a demon, she didn't have the heart to tell him that if he was friends with her, he would die just like all the others.
