Kailee sighed as her English teacher was talking about an essay that was due in a week.

She really wished she had never agreed to go to school. It was so complicated and she barely understood any of it.

Luckily, she had gotten A's and B's on all of her papers so far, but only because of the fact that Miss Mona helped her.

Kailee had never been to school. Not preschool, not kindergarten, not first, second, third, fourth, and so on! She was panicking.

Although she had told Tray that she'd never been to school, she'd never told him that she barely knew anything.

He probably thought that she was at least taught the simple things, but truth was, she didn't even know what the heck an essay was!

She knew it had something to do with writing and the topic, but she didn't have a clue how to set it up. If she asked the teacher, people would think she was a moron. She was already an outcast, and it would just make her life even worse!

Miss Mona was already helping her so much, and Kailee knew that Miss Mona needed a break at some time.

So who could she ask for help that wouldn't think of her as stupid?

"Hey, Tray?" Kailee asked, running up behind him.

Tray turned around after he finished shoving his books into his locker and shutting it.

"Yeah? What's up?" He asked her, hands in his pockets, and backpack slung over his shoulder.

"I...uhm....don't exactly know how to word this without sounding like a brain dead retard." Kailee scratched the back of her head.

"You could never sound like a brain dead retard, Kay." He chuckled, using the nickname he was so proud of.

"I very much doubt that." Kailee said dryly.

"Just ask me!" He laughed.

"How do you...how do you...?" Kailee stuttered.

"How do you what? Spit it out!" Tray exclaimed.

"Howdoyousetupanessay!?!" Kailee screamed, her words rushing together to form one big word. Somehow, Tray still understood what she was asking.

"You don't know how to set up an essay?" Tray asked.

"No." Kailee said, sighing dejectedly. "I know that it has something to do with the topic and writing, but other than that, my mind draws a blank."

"How come you don't know how to do that?" Tray asked, as he started walking out of the school doors, Kailee trailing him.

"I told you I never went to school, but I was also never taught the basics either. The only reason I've been passing is because of Miss Mona and I don't want to pester her anymore than I need to. You're the only person I know besides Will and Henry, who I don't know very well yet, mind you, that won't make fun of me." Kailee explained, embarrassed.

"You're my best friend, Kay, girl or not. I'll help you." Tray said.

"You have no idea how much this means to me." Kailee breathed.

Tray took a look at Kailee's now less tense muscles, the relief and happiness shining in her eyes and visible on her face, and the way she breathed and talked easier than before.

He chuckled. "I might have somewhat of an idea. I'll be at the foster home at 4:00. I just have to ask my mom."
