Slide groaned as he awoke. His vision was blurred for a few seconds and he had a major hangover.
He blinked as his vision swam back clearly. "Where...am I?"
The room was dark and quiet. He was on a small, white cot that wasn't too comfortable.
Fear spiked through him. "What happened?"
He remembered going upstairs to get his phone, and the rest was a blur, but he could remember feeling immense fear.
Memories flashed their way through his mind.
Kailee.
Demon.
Murderer.
Laughter.
Screaming.
Shaking.
Fear.
Wet.
Water.
Dripping.
Cold.
Tray.
Henry.
Will.
Miss Mona.
Hunger.
His eyes flashed with shock and he quickly got off of the cot.
"God, no. That didn't happen. It was a dream, and now I'm..." He trailed off and looked around. "Not in my room. Then why am I here? And what is here?"
His breathing picked up and he whipped around as he heard a voice. "You need an explanation, don't you?"
Miss Mona, Tray, Will, and Henry stood there.
"Where are we?" Slide didn't mean for it to slip from his lips, but it did.
"In the cellar." Miss Mona answered. "I've never taken any of you kids down here, but I think now is reasonable timing."
"Where's...?" Slide couldn't finish, the fear and the urge not to know cutting him off.
"Kailee and Demon?" Henry asked. Slide nodded.
"Behind you." A girl's voice spoke.
Slide faced her. She was paler than usual, and frowning. Her cheeks were stained with tears and he imagined that she had been drowning in them not long ago.
Demon wasn't much better, for lack of a better word. His fur was stiff and unbrushed. It was dirty and his eyes held immense sadness and guilt, like Kailee's.
"I'm sorry, Slide." Kailee apologized, her voice cracking.
Slide blinked. Kailee continued. "Demon and I hadn't eaten in a while, we caused an unnatural Blood Moon, it made us lose control, and we...I almost-" Kailee choked on her words at the end as more tears returned to her eyes, ready to pull her under their wet, cold, suffocating blanket.
Slide didn't know what Kailee or Demon were. He didn't know what she meant by hungry, even after all of this. He did know that he was scared and confused, but he refused to let the guilty girl before him cry.
He hugged her, she stiffened, then went limp and cried harder.
"Don't be sorry. I don't know what happened, I don't know what's going on or what you are, but this isn't your fault. Don't cry. I'm sorry too." Slide whispered.
