Kailee hated that the weekend had sped by so fast. It seemed that everything good sped by before she could even enjoy it.

She looked out the window, watching the passing buildings in town as she rode to school on the bus.

Tray sat beside her, not doing much. He glanced at her. "What?" Kailee asked. He'd glanced at her too many times for her to be okay with.

"You seem...sad." Tray fidgeted.

"Not really. Just disappointed. The weekend went by so fast. Everything good always goes by fast." Kailee voiced her thoughts.

Tray got the small hidden message in her words and frowned. "Don't worry, Kay. Everything will be okay in the end."

It was a comforting thought, something that they pleaded was true, for Kailee and Tray.

So, why did it have to be such a big lie?

Kailee sat in the back of her Math class, staring blankly into space.

The teacher droned on about absolute value, adding negatives and positives, and fractions, but it all sounded like she was underwater. Voices muffled and blurred.

She was too deep in thought, too deep inside the depths of her mind.

She had dived towards the dark part of her mind halfway through class. It was where all the sins and offenses she had committed, where her dirty secrets and evil doings were hid, and where she suffered and tortured herself by remembering it all.

She gladly submitted herself to the punishment she deserved and had coming.

It was almost like cutting. She tortured herself to punish herself and to let go of all the other worries in the world.

Kailee's tense muscles and quiet, labored breaths were stopped when the teacher yelled her name. "Kailee!"

Kailee jumped and tried to redeem herself by blurting out a random number. "39!"

The teacher shook his head. "No. Quit staring into space and pay attention." He turned his attention back to the classroom. "Anyone else?"

Kailee ignored the rest of it, despite the teacher telling her not to do so.

Kailee's stomach did a flip flop and seemed to churn. She twitched.

God, she'd held off feeding again. She was hungry. Kailee quietly pleaded to herself that she could go the rest of the day.

Kailee made it through the day, slowly and painfully.

A few more hours and it would be dark. She could go feed.

The night air was cold and whipped around her demon form, but not bothering her in the slightest.

The blue fire at the ends of her hair lit up her figure, making her more eerie than need be.

Demon had fed a few days before, and had not needed to go feed.

Sure, Kailee was alone, but at least less lives would be lost this time.

Less messes to clean up or see. Less messes she had to make.

She didn't like messes.

"Come on! Where the heck is it?" The voice was muffled, as if something was covering it.
