"Hey, do you have any orange juice?" I look up from cutting the stupid leaves to have my eyes land on Matt, leaning on the doorframe nonchalantly, a lopsided smile on his face.
I nod, still cutting the leaves with my eyes on him, and gesture towards the fridge. What can I say, I'm an expert with the knife.
"Crap, your finger!" Matt hisses.
When I look down at my fingers, my index is surrounded by a pool of crimson liquid, oozing out blood.
Or not. I think of my previous knife skill comment.
"Oh." I mumble, before the sting surges in. "OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH CALL AN AMBULANCE I'M LOSING BLOOD!"
Matt shakes his head at my outburst, and I feel him yank me by my wrist towards the sink, shoving my bloody finger under the running water. I watch painfully as the water turns red after hitting my finger, a coppery smell making me feel nauseous.
"Jay, get in here!" Matt yells, not letting go of my wrist.
Sheesh, we get you're strong. No need to prove it on my wrist.
"First you fall three times, scrape your knee, and now this?" He says in an elderly tone.
"Six times." I correct him, thinking of the fall when I woke up, in the garden and when I got in.
"What?"
"I fell six times." I admit a little louder.
He just face palms and shakes his head in disappointment at me. I scowl and watch the water silently, not wanting to make eye-contact with Matt. There's something weird about the cool liquid. It reminds me of last night; so clear, yet so dangerous. I shiver at the thought, getting lost in it.
"What?" Jason's voice snaps me out of my daze.
"We let the dogs out!" Matt enthuses cynically before putting on a serious face. "Your sister practically chopped her finger off. Where's the first-aid kit?"
"Really, Lu? Don't you watch while cutting? You're not Gordon Ramsey, for Christ's sake." Jason scolds while shuffling through the cabinets for the medical box. "And Matt." He turns around to glare at his best friend. "My sister's not mute. You could have asked her. She runs the kitchen, remember?" He points out while taking out the disinfectant from the box, followed by some band-aids.
I scowls and Matt stops the water, facing me. "Show." He orders.
"What?"
He rolls his eyes. "Oh, I forgot. You're a blonde. Show me the cut, loser."
Biting back a retort, I extend my index finger out. The cut's pretty deep, but I look away from it faster than you can say 'food'. Blood makes me squirm.
He holds my hand gingerly, dabbing a cotton ball with disinfectant on it. I wince at the sting, hissing in pain.
"Make it stop! Make iT STOP! MAKE IT STAHP!!!" My voice rises with each syllable. See, I'm not very enduring.
"Hey, Princess. Squeeze my hand any tighter, and I'm afraid it'll explode." Matt smirks, removing the bloody cotton.
"What?" I ask lamely. He nods his head towards his left hand, which I'm squeezing the life out of. I swear, the poor hand is going white from lack of blood flow. "Oh, sorry." I mumble, looking down to hide my blush. He just shrugs before taking the band-aid from Jason's hand.
