Displeasure

I look at my image in the mirror, still unable to decipher how that girl is me. Saying Megan did a good job is an understatement. She got me a strapless navy high-low dress from an online store. The natural waist is embellished with white jewels, and the polyester bodice is topped with a glitter chiffon material, making the dress look quite beautiful.

After taking a shower, Megan blow dried my hair and set my hair in loose curls, and put on my most hated substance on my face. Makeup.

I didn't allow her to put on much, though - just a bit of concealer or whatever, with mascara and eyeliner. She wanted to make my eyelids smoky, but I only laughed at her and told her to keep dreaming.

"You look lavishing, my friend." Megan comments while putting on her pretty earrings. If she thinks I look good, she obviously hasn't looked at herself yet. She has on a sequin detailed, short purple dress with sweetheart neckline and an empire waistline. The color really brings out her chocolaty eyes.

Yeah, no. I just said the eye thing to sound experienced in this department.

"Speak for yourself." I laugh a little, while stuffing a dark backpack with a dark brown tank top, black hoodie and sweats, along with my worn out converse. Megan suggested I take it in case I need to make an escape while people who potentially know Barbara are outside. I cannot have Barbara know.

Megan stands up dramatically from putting on her shoes, a determined look on her face. "Let's do dis."

By 9:50, we get to the event center. Megan gets out of her car, and I mirror her actions, scratching an itch on my elbow. I look around the place. The parking lot is surrounded by trees, and the cool air is filled with the faint sound of music coming from the building.

"Just a reminder, Lu. You left your hippo-sized journal in my car yesterday. Don't forget to take it home, or I'm throwing it away."

I roll my eyes. "It's not that heavy."

She only scoffs, pushing the double doors to the building open. We take the elevator to the fourth floor, which is where the juniors will be having their Prom. The seniors are having theirs on the fifth floor, according to what I heard from Rebecca.

When the elevator dings, my jaws drop at the sight. The decoration is amazing. Heck, that's an understatement. Whoever decorated it deserves a pat on the back. The light is dimmed, a silver disco ball rotating in the center. The walls are filled with tiny LED and fairy lights, giving the whole place an enchanting vibe. At the very end of the room is a DJ, and perpendicular to him is the snacks table. An unfamiliar song is playing, and couples are swaying together at the slow song, foreheads together, arms around necks and waist. You know; all that romantic crap.

"There's Jason." Megan points at my brother, chugging on some pink liquid, most possibly punch that is spiked.

"You really have eyes for him, don't you?" I mutter, hoping she can't hear. But, of course, with her inhuman hearing, she slaps my upper arm, making me wince.

Stupid black belt.

"It's about ten now, so enjoy your time till 11:30. I'll drop you home at that time, yeah?"

I nod. Megan always has everything planned out.

I tap Jason on the shoulder, and whipping around, he smiles when his eyes land on me. "Dayum, Lu. You look almost as hot as I do!" Only my brother can make a comment as cocky as that.
