No excuses. I'm just lazy. Happy Independence Day, America ☺

All To Myself

By the next week, Linda returns. The first thing she does is enter the living room and gives me a hug, wishing me a belated happy birthday, even though she texted me on the actual day.
I thank her, asking her about Heather and how she's doing.
"We found her an apartment on the second day, luckily enough. There was a lot of paperwork involved, but she should be able to move in there tomorrow."
"Where's George?"
"He's staying to help her move her things when they reach. He'll be back the day after tomorrow."
I nod in acknowledgement, looking back at the screen of the television.
"By the way, Lucy, we're going to take you out for a birthday dinner once George is back. I'm so sorry we weren't here."
I turn around to offer her a smile. "Don't worry about that, Linda. I appreciate you guys caring. Thanks."
"We got you something." She informs, and holds a finger up before going out the room. Two minutes later, she's back with a small box wrapped in black and white wrapping paper.
I take it from her, thanking her. By the excitement present in her eyes, I can tell she wants me to open it on the spot, so I do.
It's an iPhone. The latest version, too.
"We figured you really needed this." She gestures to my old, cracked iPhone that was two models too old.
I laugh, hugging her and thanking her once more. I'm so glad I have people like Linda and George in my life. They really don't make me feel like I have no parents.
Linda leaves shortly to take a shower, and in the mean time I prep up my phone.
"We should go out to shop for a nice cover. I could use a few, too."
"Sure. Do you want to have lunch out, too?"
"We could do that. I think mom is going to meet a client. I saw her take her formal attire out."
"I'll get ready, then?"
"Yeah, do that. Want me to invite Matt and the others? I feel like that'd make the day more fun."
I shrug. "Sure, I don't mind."
She nods, and I head for my room to take a shower.
It takes me slightly longer than usual to shower, mainly because I got distracted singing and contemplating life.
Blow drying my hair, I squirt some salt spray in to give it a little texture and change into skinny jeans and a slightly-too-big shirt.
I apply some light makeup - namely to my eyes and eyebrows - and proceed to look for my Vans.
When I don't find them, I go into Megan's room to ask her if she's seen them, but gasp audibly when my eyes land on Nathan and Megan against a wall, kissing.
"Uh - " says Nathan as he pulls away.
"I- uh, continue." I exit quickly, catching Megan's wide eyes for a fraction of a second.
My mind feels sort of frenzied, so I shake it off and go downstairs to see if my shoes are there.
I find them on the shoe rack near the front door, so go to the living to put them on, only to find Matt sitting there, on his phone.
