When we reach Pizza Hut, Megan and Nate are already there.
"We ordered, since you guys were taking so long." Megan informs us.
I shrug. "That's alright."
We slide in to the opposite side of the booth to Megan and Nathan. The latter looks at me with a knowing smirk, and I glare at him.
Last night, in the shower, I found myself contemplating life. I thought of a lot of things, like the inevitability of death and how there may be other universes out there.
More than that, I found myself thinking about Lucy and I found myself thinking about why I was thinking about Lucy. I hadn't hung out with her for a few days, and I actually found myself missing her company. Which was fine, because friends can miss other friends.
What friends don't do is notice every single detail about their friends and spend a part of their day thinking about those details. I shouldn't be so drawn to Lucy. I shouldn't enjoy her company enough to want to go out of my way to spend time with her.
I mean, friends can do that, yes. Friends can treat each other like that, I suppose.
What I was more concerned about was whether these are something I would do for my friends. Especially one I have known a little under a month.
So, I texted Nathan. He asked me a few questions, and when we came to the conclusion that I may actually have started developing feelings for Lucy, he seemed thrilled.
Which brings me to right now. Since I'm more conscious of my actions, I catch myself glancing at Lucy from time to time. I've always found her pretty, I guess. But if I was asked why I like Lucy, her looks wouldn't necessarily be the first thing I think of.
No. I would probably say that I was drawn to Lucy's intelligence and her behavior towards people. Lucy was the type of person you would talk about the universe with. With her, you could probably be content with not coming to a legitimate conclusion, because talking to her was about the journey, not the destination.
Or maybe, I just don't want to reach a destination with her. Today, for instance, I refused to take the short cut because I wanted a few extra minutes with her.
Am I being pathetic?
Maybe I am.
I'm broken out of my trance by Lucy poking my arm. She looks at me with slight concern, so I smile at her before taking a slice of pizza on my plate.
Most of the conversation occurs between Megan and Nathan. Lucy doesn't speak much, which I noticed happens every time she eats. She savored her food as much as she could.
When everyone was done eating, Lucy and I split the price. Megan and Nathan head out, the two of us following closely by.
Lucy and I get in my car, and I drive towards the mall.
"Is something wrong, Matt?" Lucy asks softly.
I look at her for a second before turning my head towards the road.
"Not really. Why do you ask?"
She shrugs. "You just seemed kind of quiet while eating."
I glance at her and can't help but smile. "I didn't want to interrupt the two."
"Oh." She smiles and looks outside.
Lucy and I end up reaching the mall first. Megan says on the phone that they'll take around ten more minutes to reach so we roam around for a bit.
