Feelings & Potentials

"My sister?" Jason asks, both eyebrows raised at me.

I press my lips together and run my palm up and down the back of my hair. "Yes?"

Jason stares at me for a while before looking at Nathan, who has a poker face on. I silently curse him for his lack of support in the matter.

The three of us were in Jason's room, and I decided to take a leap of confidence and be forthright about my feelings for Lucy to Jason. So far, he didn't look amused.

After what seems like eons, his facial features, previously stoic, relaxes and the corners of his lips tug up to form a lazy smile.

"If you're sure you're into her, then go for it, man."

I do a double-take while Nathan exclaims with questions about whether Jason is serious.

He shrugs. "I don't see why not. You two have been hanging out quite a lot these past few days, and I, for one think that she's really come out of her shell after meeting you."

I let his words settle in. If what he says is true, I'm incredibly flattered.

"So, if I ask her out, you won't have a problem with it?" I ask slowly and cautiously.

Jason beams. "'Course not, Matt. As long as you treat her well and respect her boundaries, I'll be rooting for the two of you."

"Thanks, man." I say solemnly, quite relieved to have gotten the approval of my best friend and the brother of the girl I was trying to pursue.

"I just hope you know that if you do somehow end up hurting her, I'll take her side."

"Me too." Nathan pipes in, a sly smirk plastered on his face.

"Glad I can count on you both, thanks." I drawl.

I'm soon taken over by a slight sense of happiness. I honestly expected Jason to have an outburst about how he'll fuck me up if I did anything to his sister or say something along the line of 'stay the hell away from her.'

With a smugly content look on my face, I look at Nathan and sneer. He rolls his eyes but grins at me, which I can't help but return.

"Are you planning on being cheesy with this whole thing?"  Jason asks, eyebrows raised.

"I don't think he has it in him, Jay." Nathan snickers.

"I'm going to ask her to go on a date with me, not marry me, so I'll be cool." I say and glare at Nate, "I may not watch The Notebook once every two weeks but I can be cheesy, okay?"

Nathan raises his palms in surrender and chuckles. "Either ways, buddy, I'm sure Lucy would love to go out with you."

I look at Jason, just to attain a second opinion from his facial expression, and am relieved to see a lazy smile.

If only I felt as confident as my best friends did.

"Lucy." I am shaken out of my trance. I turn around to face the dark brown irises of my best friend. "Is something wrong?"

I take a deep breath and ready myself to tell Megan about yesterday. The only problem is, I dont know if there is anything to talk about.

"What do you think about Matt?" I ask in a way I think is vague.

"In what terms? What I think of him in general or are there certain traits you want me to comment on?"
