"So you're telling me," Jason leans forward, "that Liam - a college senior who has never even met Lucy - is after her?"

Nathan, Jason and I are in Jason's room. Jay and I are sat on the bed while Nathan is stood, arms crossed below his chest. His eyebrows crinkle with evident worry lingering on his face.

"When you put it like that. . ." I trail off.

"What did he say?" Nathan asks.

I unlock my phone and display the text from Liam reading: u got away but I'll make sure blondie doesn't :)

I want to punch him for having the nerve to add a fucking smiley face in the end. 

"Alright, so we'll go to the police." Jason states with no room for argument. 

I argue anyways. "What are you going to tell them, Jay? That a twenty-twenty year old is after your sister because he wants vengeance for his? Do you think a simple text will pose as enough evidence?"

"It was a threat, Matt. Pretty sure the police won't disregard a threat."

"We don't really know that he's talking about Lucy. I mean, many people from our team are blonde. Megan's sister is blonde. There are thousands of blondes out there." 

My heart palpitates as my hands begin to sweat. Are they being serious right now? 

"Are you really willing to take a chance?" I exclaim. I'm on my feet at this point, glaring at my two best friends. I watch their faces, thoughts forming behind them, probably trying to contradict my point.

With a sigh, Jason says, "Fine. Okay, you're right. But what's the worst he can do, Matt?" 

"He had me at knife point and almost killed me by drowning me, Jay!" I shout.

Nathan presses his lips into a thin line, licking them before saying, "Can't argue with that, man. He's ruthless. Psychotic, even. I'll go over to Lucy. Make sure she's safe, alright?" 

I feel a twang of something dark within me, just a sliver. I don't acknowledge it completely and shove it back to the abyss within. When Nathan leaves, Jason stares at me.

"Besides the potential death threat, how was the date?"

"I'm heading out now, Lu." Megan pops into my room. I turn my head and acknowledge her with a half smile. "Have a great day."

"You sure you don't want to come?" 

"Yes I would like to avoid social interaction with people I don't know." 

She rolls her eyes and mumbles something under her breath. "Bye, Lu."

I wave half-heartedly and go back to watching the movie on my laptop screen. Yet again I'm interrupted, but this time by a tan boy with shaggy hair.

"Ugh! Get off of me!" I choke out at Nathan, who decided that it would be a good idea to jump onto my stomach.

His dark brown eyes widen and a look of apology forms on his face as he gets up and awkwardly pats my stomach.
