Y/N sat up from her bed, breathing heavily, and her eyes scanning the dark room, trying to remember where she was. Once she remembered she was in her bedroom, she took a deep breath and wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.

"It was just a stupid nightmare," she whispered to herself as she batted the tears away from her eyes.

With her hand trembling, she grabbed the glass of water from her nightstand. She took another deep breath and closed her eyes as she lay back on her bed. Her hand reached out for the extra pillow and hugged it, forming into a fetal position in the middle of her bed.

Her eyelids flew open the second images of her nightmares flashed through her mind. She didn't know what to do. She knew the only way she would be able to go back to sleep was hearing Liam's voice and knowing he's okay.

It was nearly 2am and she hesitated before calling him. It would be selfish of her to wake him up, but she was worried her nightmare might have been a reality. She knew her worries would wash away the second she heard the sound of his voice.

Y/N heard Liam clearing his throat through the phone. "Hello?" Liam's voice was traced with tiredness and sleepiness.

"I didn't mean to wake you up," Y/N whispered. "But I just wanted to hear your voice."

"Are you okay?" Liam rolled over on his back and rubbed the sleep away from his tired eyes.

Y/N sighed. "I am now. I just had a terrible nightmare and I just wanted to know if you were okay."

Her voice was laced with fear and Liam could hear her heart racing through the phone. He was wide-awake now.

"Could you just stay on the line with me until I fall asleep?" She asked.

"We can stay on the phone until I get to your house." Liam got out of bed.

"Liam, you don't need to do that."

"I want to." Y/N smiled at his words.

"Just make sure your window is open," Liam said.

"I'm home alone. Save yourself the trouble and use the front door."

"Okay," Liam said. "I'll be there in about five minutes, okay? Just stay on the line with me."

"Okay," she whispered.

For less than 10 minutes they pressed their phones against their ears in a comfortable silence until Liam knocked on the front door. They didn't need to exchange words. They were perfectly fine with listening to each other's even breathing and steady heartbeats. Knowing they were listening to each other's heartbeat brought a sense of calmness, peace, and comfort. It was an unspoken bond the two understood.

After letting him in the dark empty house, Y/N grabbed Liam's hand and led the way to her bed. She closed her bedroom door behind her and turned around to see Liam already in her bed, patting the empty space with his hand, signaling her to lay down with him. Liam turned to his side, facing Y/N. His left hand reached out for her hair and began running the tip of his fingers through it, feeling the soft and silky hair between his fingers.

His eyes scanned every inch of her petrified face as he tucked a loose strand of her long bangs behind her ear. "What's wrong?"

"I just wanted to make sure you were okay," she smiled sadly.

Liam rested his hand on her cheek and began rubbing the pad of his thumb against her cold cheeks, "I'm perfectly fine. I'm right here."

"I know," she looked down at his free hand on the bed. She reached out and began tracing along his hand, the soft tip of her index finger brushing against his rough palm. "I just had a bad nightmare," she whispered. "You know, the kind where they seem so real and you can't seem to wake up from, but when you do, you're out of breath, sweating, and your eyes are filled with tears."

"What was it about?" Liam asked, his eyes never leaving hers.

"Can we not talk about it right now? I just don't want to think about it right now."

"Okay," Liam's hand left her cheek and slipped it into her hair, gently stroking her hair. "What do you want to talk about?"

"Anything," she slipped her fingers between his. Liam immediately locked his fingers with hers and began rubbing the pad of his thumb against the back of her hand. She loved the way he was so gentle with her. It made her feel comfortable and safe.

"Your hands are so soft." Liam admired, causing Y/N to smile and look down at their intertwined hands. "And mine are so rough."

"I like your rough hands."

"Liar," Liam chuckled before kissing the back of her hand.

"I'm serious. I don't know, I just think rough hands show what a hard worker you are, and I think that makes you very manly." Y/N teased.

"No, I'm just a stupid teenager who constantly forgets to put cream on."

"Hey..." With her other free hand, she slipped it under Liam's cheek that was resting against the pillow and began tracing his cheekbone with her thumb. "You're not stupid, okay?"

Liam nodded. "Okay."

Y/N's eyes began to swell up with tears.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it." Liam began to worry. His hand in Y/N's hair moved back to her cheek, and Liam tried to free his other hand but, Y/N held on to it tight. "I didn't mean to upset you."

"That's not it," She mumbled as her eyes flickered away from Liam's worried blue eyes.

"Then what is it? Talk to me," Liam begged, returning the gesture by squeezing her hand in his.

"You," she whispered with a shaky breath. She closed her eyes and inhaled before speaking again. "I dreamt you died, Liam, and I couldn't do anything about it. That's not the worst part. I was literally physically feeling the emotional pain of losing you, the grief, the heartbreak, and the guilt. I felt it all and I don't ever want to feel that. I don't ever want to lose you," she sobbed.

"Hey," Liam whispered pulling her into his chest and wrapping his arms securely around her waist. "I'm right here, okay? Nothing happened to me and I'm perfectly fine."

Y/N tightened her arms around his torso and buried her head into the crook of his neck, taking in his scent and listening to his steady heartbeat.

"Listen, I know we live the supernatural life, and there's a lot of risks that come with it. I can't promise you I won't die, because we're not invincible or immortal, but I'll try my damn hardest to live as long as I can." Liam promised. "Okay?"

"Okay." She looked up at Liam, causing him to look down at her. Their eyes locked and immediately got lost looking deep into each other's souls with so much love, admiration, and adoration; completely changing the entire conversation on a whole different level.

Y/N's hand slipped to the nape of Liam's neck and began playing with his hair. With her eyes still looking into Liam's blue orbs, she was begging him to stay the night. She didn't want him to leave her. Just for tonight, she wanted to stay wrapped in his arms, their legs tangled under the sheets, and her head nuzzled into the crook of his neck.

Liam gave her a small nod as he bit his bottom lip, reassuring her he's not going anywhere tonight and he'll still be there in the morning when she wakes up. She sighed deeply as she rested her head at his chest, letting her heavy eyelids fall. Liam kissed her forehead and tightened his grip, pressing her body closer against his.

Sometimes it's hard to look for the right words you want to say or express. No matter how much you search, sometimes you just can't find the words you need. So instead, you find different ways to interpret the words. That's exactly what Liam and Y/N did tonight. They didn't have to say a word because the way they looked at each other and the way they touched each other, said so much more. They knew how special the other person was and how much they mean to each other. It was an unspoken bond the two had between their hearts, and they understood every word, touch, and heartbeat as the two fell asleep in each other arms and their heartbeats in perfect sync.
