Everyone in Mrs. Finch class was taking down notes as she talked about today's lesson, except for two people, Y/N and Liam. Y/N couldn't keep her eyes off Liam. He rested his cheek on his closed fist, as his head looked down at his open textbook. To anyone, they would have thought Liam was paying attention and following along with the textbook, but not Y/N. She knew Liam was asleep. After all, she was the one that taught him that trick to fool the teacher.
She noticed how exhausted Liam was. He was developing dark bags under his eyes. She had no clue why he was losing sleep. Being Scott's younger sister, and a witch, she knew what was going on. There was a dead pool list going around and berserkers were running all over town. Trying to save each other and the people of Beacon Hills took a lot of time, but if Y/N could get a couple of hours of sleep, why couldn't Liam?
Liam started shaking his head, mumbling low "no's". Y/N immediately reached for his hand, hoping to wake him up from whatever nightmare he was having and not get into trouble with Mrs. Finch. "Hey, Liam," she whispered.
The small gesture made Liam slide off his chair and yell out, "No!" Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at Liam, like he suddenly grew two horns on his head. Before Mrs. Finch could ask Liam a question, the bell rang, signaling the end of class. Y/N quickly put her things away in her backpack.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" Liam asked angrily as he grabbed his notebook and textbook.
"I did! You started mumbling in your sleep, and I was afraid Mrs. Finch would catch you. So, I grabbed your hand and said your name, which made you fall out of your seat. What was I supposed to do? Slap the back of your head?"
"That might have been less embarrassing than what just happened," Liam snapped as he walked out of class.
Before they could get lost in the hallway traffic, Y/N grabbed his wrist and turned him around. "What is going on, Liam?"
"Nothing," he said as he avoided looking at her.
"I'm your best friend. I think I know when you're lying to me." Liam didn't say anything as he kept refusing to look at her. She pulled him away from the traffic and to a corner in the hallway. She lifted his chin, forcing him to look at her. "You're cranky when you snap; not just at me, but at anyone. You're also cranky because you're not getting any sleep. I also know you're lying because you can't look me in the eye. Do I need to keep going to prove to you I am your best friend, and no one knows you better than me?"
Liam's shoulders dropped as he let out a long and tired sigh. He looked down before he embraced her in a hug. "I'm sorry," he mumbled by her ear, the small action causing goosebumps on every inch of her body.
"It's okay," she said as she hugged him back before rubbing his back, the small action making his heart skip a beat. Liam was grateful she wasn't a werewolf like him to hear his crazy heart.
The bell rang, signaling the beginning of the next class. They quickly pulled apart and looked at each other. "Let me walk you to class," he said.
She shook her head. "We're already late. I don't want to make you any later than you already are by walking me across campus."
"But Y/N with-"
"Liam, it's fine. I'll be fine. Besides, I can take care of myself. I've got my wand," she winked at him before taking a couple of steps.
"I thought that was a myth," he teased back, keeping up with her steps.
"It is," she giggled. "See you tonight. Your place, right?"
