Warnings: Cheating, Drinking/Alcoholic, Mentions of Sex
Liam was trying to control his breathing and anger as he walked up the steps to his best friend's house. He needed his anchor. He needed Y/N to calm him down with her soothing words, her kissable lips, and her gentle, warm touch. He needed her.
He quickly walked over to the hide-a-key turtle sitting on the far end of the porch and lifted the shell, revealing a spare key to her house. His key that he couldn't carry around his keychain without his girlfriend knowing he had a key to another woman's house.
Liam had been with Hayden for almost four years and as messed up as it was, every time he got into it with Hayden or just snapped over the littlest things, he'd go to his anchor, Y/N. He knew it was wrong to go to Y/N while he was with Hayden, but it wasn't that easy. She needed him just as much as he needed her, but Y/N had problems of her own too.
Once he opened the door, he noticed all the lights in Y/N's house were off except for the soft glow radiating from the living room. Using his werewolf senses, he could hear her heartbeat steady and her breathing even. He knew she was fast asleep. Sure enough, when he reached the sofa in the living room she was passed out, but the sight in front of him broke his heart, instantly washing away the anger he had just moments ago.
Y/N's feet were resting on the edge of the coffee table, which had at least eight empty beer bottles scattered on top of it, and and half a bottle of whiskey in her hand. Y/N was wearing one of Liam's high school lacrosse shirts and a pair of boxers. With the light from the TV illuminating her face, the dark circles in Y/N's eyes looked darker. There were hard lines on her face, from all the stress she's been dealt with for the past four years. Closely observing her, she looked so broken and in so much pain. It had Liam wanting to wrap his arms around her and take it all the way.
Liam startled Y/N as he pulled the bottle away from her hand. Her eyes flew wide open and immediately sat up as she saw Liam sitting on the wooden coffee table in front of her. She knew the only time he ever came to her house, especially this late at night, is when he just gotten into a fight with Hayden and his anger was getting the best of him.
"What's wrong?" She placed her hand on his chest, rubbing small circles with her thumb, trying to calm him down.
"You've been drinking again?" He asked as he looked down at her hand and pushed it away from his chest.
She shook her head. "Not today," she whispered. "I didn't drink any whiskey, I swear. I wanted to so badly, but I stopped myself."
"And the beer?" Liam asked.
"The bottles were all from yesterday. I've gone the entire day without drinking and that's one day more than I've ever been sober, Liam."
Liam was shocked to hear her heartbeat steady, indicating that she telling the truth. Before, she would lie about her drinking problem straight to his face.
"Now," she pulled his chin up to face her. "Tell me what's wrong."
"Hayden and I got into a fight."
She sighed. "That's nothing new. What did you guys fight about this time now? How you're never home at night? How she always working late hours? How-"
Liam interrupted her list of his past arguments and fights with Hayden. "Why I haven't asked her to marry me yet."
Liam heard Y/N's heart skip a beat in fear, feeling as if her heart had jumped up to her throat as her eyes widened and didn't utter a word. Her chemo signals were reeking of anxiety, but she was trying her best to calm herself down.
