It's been a two weeks since the semester starts. Gryffindor got their Seeker Lily, my sister, and it's our first game of the season. I look around and catch the quaffle just as Liam drops it I am following under him. As soon as it was in my grasp I speed forward making straight towards the Gryffindor goals. The keeper is Sam, Alice's older brother.
I look behind me only to see Rose and Alice get on either side of me ready to stop me from making a goal.
I narrow down but then Alice zips in front of me right as I throw the quaffle.
I watch in despair as she catches it perfectly and passes it to Rose who passed it to Liam who scores while Scorpius is to busy making eyes at Rose. Gross I kinda threw up a little right then.
"Ten points to Gryffindor!" My mind snaps back to attention as a bludger rams into my arm making me loose my balance for a second. As soon as I regain my balance I rush after Rose who has the quaffle while keeping an eye out for the bludger.
I see a spark in the stands but I don't really think about it, I direct my whole attention to the Quaffle.
For the first few minutes Rose and Alice have scored several times, but so have we. Now the score is Gryffindor 90 Slytherin 80. I look around and see that Rose has the quaffle. I zone on her and try to block her off. As soon as I've gotten in front of her she swerves around and is thrown off her broom. She flies towards Liam but he swerves away from her. Then she tries to hold on but it's bucking her like a bull. I fly to her and try to steady her broom but its too strong. It starts flying around the court. The ref- Oliver Wood calls for a time out and we all fly to her to help her carefully because it looks like she's been hexed or something. Then the broom has had its finally run and Rose is thrown off to the ground. Wood runs to her, picks Rose up, and takes her to the infirmary. I look over at Alice who is panicking trying to help her best friend.
Just at that moment I remember that spark I saw in the stands. I look over to where I saw it and squint my eyes to see. It looks like that Phoebe girl from the other day but she seemed nice so I don't know why- wait. The flirting with Scorp. Rose getting mad and warding her off. It all makes sense!
I read a book once about how girls similarities to male wolves. Girls or women are rather possessive of their friends. Specifically their male friends. Like male wolves with their pack and mate(s).
"I know who did this," Alice says behind me. I nearly fall off my broom.
"Wha- where- what!" I say looking at the spot she was just at. "Phoebe. It all makes sense, like that book about girls are similar to male wolves, remember?!" She says. Okay I might have needed tutoring last year, and Alice was my tutor, but not the point!
"Yea, I just realized that a second ago before you, well yah." I say rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly. I know lovesick puppy am I right? Just cut me some slack.
"Albus hold my wand before I do something stupid, I am going to kill her. I don't freaking care if it gets me expelled!" Alice says shoving her wand towards my I grab it tightly and Alice's shoulder with my other hand.
"Alice-"
"Don't worry I'll kill her for you!" Scorpius says cutting me off I grab him too and slowly pull them away from the Hufflepuff section of the stands.
After the game is finished we wait outside of the infirmary for what seems like ages, according to Alice only 2 minutes, until we are allowed to see Rose. As we walk in I see Liam with a twisted ankle from falling off his broom at the end of the game, and many other students. With staff and students rushing around we carefully make our way towards Rose.
"Rose are you okay-"
"Excuse me BFF coming through-"
"Hey I'm her friend too!"
"So I've know her longer than you!"
"What does that have to do with anything!" Alice and Scorpius argue.
"Guys guys! Calm down!" Rose says from her bed with a wrap around her ankle from the fall.
"Rose!" They both say worriedly. As I make my way around them and sit on the edge of her bed. Rose looks at me sympathetically as Alice and Scorpius argue over who is a better friend blah blah blah. I sigh and roll my eyes earning a weak laugh from my cousin.
"How are you doing?" She asks while doofus and Alice keep bickering.
"I've been better trying to keep them from killing your friend Pheobe. Who hexed you." I say shrugging casually.
"What!" Rose says coughing a little, "Friend! Far from it more like competition!" Rose scoffs as I raise my eyebrow.
"N-not like that!" She says a blush creeping into her cheeks as she stammers. I laugh when Alice and Scorp are finally done arguing, "How ya doin' bestie?" Alice asks gently calming down considerably.
"Been better," Rose says smiling, "At least I'm not like my Uncle Harry who got a bone removed by stupid Lockhart." Rose adds shuddering, Alice looks so sad it's horrible to see her this way.
"Gryffindor won by the way," I add hoping to lighten the mood. It works.
"Yeah I could hear the shouts all the way over in here," she says smiling, "Hey can I talk to Scorp alone for a bit, we have a homework assignment due here soon," Rose says.
"Yeah wait we do-"
"Yea and it's a secret so um yeah bye," She says cutting off Scorpius and hugging me and Alice rather quickly and shooing us away.
Once we are back in the Slytherin common room (after a brief discussion) Alice and I sit on one of the couches in front of the fie place. Alice is sitting on the end opposite of me with her legs drooping off the side of the couch while clutching a pillow.
"I wonder what their talking about, it's definitely not homework," Alice says look me in the eye.
"Probably, well I don't know. They're usually pretty secretive about their conversations." I say watching her face for any new expressions.
Her expression stays the same. Sad and concerned.
"I feel like I'm being a bad friend," she says her eyes watering up, "It's just that when we were little Rose was always there for me and would even get in trouble for it sometimes. But I feel like I could never live up to that expectation." She says with a fat tear rolling down her cheek.
"Hey," I say wiping the tear away, "You don't have to live up to that. Rose is your friend for who you are not the fact that you are always there, that's a bonus. But if I know one thing when it comes to girls, is that it's okay to cry every once in a while and it will be okay. " I say hugging her gently.
Alice sits up and leans on to my shoulder and I wrap my arm around her letting her cry. "Thanks." She says sniffing. "For being such a good friend." She says closing her eyes. It hurts me that we aren't more.
