Chapter Thirty Three

Arianna has been being asked up for the past couple of days, and like Joey’s fate something bad happens to them before or after they finish their sentences. Arianna so far had said yes to a couple of them but of course they ended up in the Hospital Wing, their cases seemed more severe if they got an answer.

Most of the people had found out about this jinx of course, seeing that the Hospital Wing was full of people who had suffered after asking Arianna to the Ball. Jessica, a mad psychopath as Arianna calls her, found this quite amusing.

“Aww can’t control the nerves Riddle?” she taunted one day in Charms class, “Can’t control the urge to hex people? Including dates?” Arianna gave a fake smile

“At least people actually ask me to the ball,” she taunted back, James and Remus who were beside her laughed

“You got served!” said James laughing

                There were boy of course that were persistent like James was to Lily. They still asked Arianna despite this so called “jinx” just like Ernie Fleet, a shy blonde, Hufflepuff asked Arianna as she was lining up to go to Hogsmeade

                “Uhm hi Arianna,” he greeted her shyly, Arianna smiled nicely

                “Hello Ernie.” She greeted back, Ernie seemed to gain confidence

                “I was uh…” he looked around, up and down to see if there was anything around to seriously injure him, he saw there was none but his fellow classmates just lining up he then faced back to her “Wondering if you could go to the ball with me?”

                Arianna was about to open her mouth to answer when…

                “Hi Riddle!!!” Ernie felt himself shrink as The Marauders came, ruffling Arianna’s hair and talking to her as if he didn’t exist.

                “Oh Fleet!” cried James in recognition “We didn’t notice you there! Did you guys?” he turned to his friends, the Marauders shook their heads, Sirius who was beside him looked smug

                “Were we interrupting something?” he asked, trying to sound innocent; looking Ernie straight in the eye, Ernie cringed involuntarily which made Sirius look even more smug

                “No,” he said his voice higher than normal “I’ll just be ah going Arianna. Nice talking to you!” he then ran off. The Marauders guffawed once he was out of earshot. Arianna gave them each a look

“That wasn’t very nice.” She scolded them; James straightened up and rolled his eyes

“Well were you even planning to say yes?” he asked, Arianna crossed her arms

“Well no but –“

“See!” James cried, pointing a finger at her “We just saved you time! Besides, rumor has it you have some kind of jinx on you. So we weren’t just saving you, we were saving Fleet too, we wouldn’t want Madam Pomfrey to have another patient now do we?”

Arianna hit him on the arm

“I do not have a jinx!” she said “Besides if you guys see it that way, I’ll agree to go with him! I wouldn’t want him to think I only said no because you boys were around!”

She tried walking towards Ernie but Sirius grabbed her arm

“No time Riddle,” said Sirius as he pulled her back beside him “The gates are open, it’s time to leave.” Arianna rolled her eyes as she started walking with the Marauders like always “I saw that. Number six.”
