Jake’s POV
I was nervous for the bonfire. I don’t know how Ruby will react to the news. I thought about how Kim reacted when Jared told her. He had said she was astounded and amazed. She had reacted badly, but once she realized how much Jared means to her, she came back. She was okay with it. I hope Ruby will be too. I sighed. This is complicated. My mind began wandering off to the fight with the newborns. That was coming up soon. Why does this always happen to me? Why can’t my life be normal? Why did Bella have to go and fall in love with a leech? Why can’t she be a normal human being and just love someone of their own species? I was overreacting. Besides, once the fight is over, I won’t have to worry about her anymore. I have Ruby. I sighed, longing to be with her. I couldn’t imagine what I would do without her. As I was beginning to daydream about her, Seth barged in.
“Hey, the guys are gonna go set up for the bonfire, you in?” he asked. I sighed.
“Yeah, I’ll be there in a few,” I said.
“Good,” he said, smirking, knowing that if I didn’t, they would drag me out. He left and I stayed where I was for a good minute or two when I heard Paul’s booming voice.
“Black, get your ass over here!” he yelled. I groaned aloud.
“Jesus Christ,” I muttered. I glared at Paul as we headed outside. He smirked. We began to set everything up for the bonfire.

Ruby’s P.O.V
I was excited. I haven’t been to a bonfire since a couple days after I moved back. I couldn’t believe how quickly time has passed. I checked myself out once more in the mirror. It wasn’t that good of an outfit for mid November, but it wasn’t too cold out. I made some finishing touches on my makeup and went downstairs.
“Ready to go?” Kim asked, twirling her keys on her index finger.
“Ready,” I chimed. We made our way to her car and drove down to the beach. We parked and headed over to where the rest of the pack was. Jake’s head snapped up once we got closer. His face broke out into a wide grin. He lightly jogged up to me but sped up as he got closer. I let out an unattractive squeal as he picked me up, spinning me around.
“Hey beautiful,” he said, putting me back on my feet.
“Hi handsome,” I replied. He pecked my lips quickly and led me to the bonfire. Jared and Kim were off in their own world. I noticed how everyone was talking and acting like one big family. I smiled as I watched Quil play with little Claire. Jake wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
“Just how homey it all feels,” I said. “I feel perfect around you guys. I don’t know, I’m just being weird. Ignore me.” He chuckled as I blushed.
“Don’t be embarrassed,” Jake said softly. “I’m glad you feel welcomed.” I smiled as he kissed my cheek.
“Everything’s almost perfect,” I murmured as we sat down on one of the logs.
“Almost?”
“Well, my mom’s not here.”
“She will be soon.” I sighed lightly.
“I really miss having her around.”
“But she’ll be home soon.”
“I know.” Jake kissed my temple.
