Ruby's P.O.V
I could not believe I was moving back to La Push. Sure, I was going to miss all my friends back in California, but this is where I belong! My name is Ruby Koshi. I was born in Washington and during first grade, I moved to California.
Now, high school has started and I'm a senior. My mom was letting me go back to La Push, my real home. My dad had divorced my mom after four years of marriage, I was only four when they split, but I know that he was never a great husband or father. He was never there for us and my mom and I never saw him afterwards.
Now, my mom decided that I should move back to La Push. She knows I never really liked it in Cali, but I know she enjoys it there. Although it hurts to be away from my mom, I know it's for the best. She promised that she would come back to La Push once she finds a way. Until then, I will be in La Push. She was letting me stay with my best friend, Kim Connweller. Her parents and my mom have been friends since they were in high school, so Kim and I met through them. Ever since we first met, we became the closest of friends. Nothing was ever kept between us. Even though I had moved, we always kept in touch through Facebook, Oovoo, or she would usually come to Cali. Now, today, I will be moving in with her. Of course, her parents are allowing this and all; we were both psyched.
As we kept driving, I began to notice some familiar places. I smiled as I even recognized some of the people. I recognized the homes, the streets, the beach, everything! Then, as Kim's house came into view, I saw something large and dark in the forest. I tried to see what it was but couldn't fully make it out. It looked like a wolf. Not just an ordinary wolf, more like an oversized one. I shuddered and the car finally stopped.
"Ruby!" I heard someone scream. It was Kim.
"Kimmie!" I screamed back. I got out of the car and ran to hug her.
"Oh my god! I missed you so much!" she squealed.
"I missed you, too!" I squealed back.
My mom got out of the car after fixing her hair.
"Momma!" Kim screamed as she hugged my mom. I laughed. Kim and I call each other's parents Mom and Dad since we were all so close. I grabbed all my bags from the car and went inside the house. "Where are Mom and Dad?" I asked.
"They had to go to the store," Kimmie said. She threw her arms around me, still psyched. I laughed. We grabbed my things again and headed upstairs towards the guest room. We put my things down and I plopped onto my new bed.
"I can't believe I'm finally home," I breathed.
"I know, right?" Kim said.
"It feels like a dream come true!"
"Definitely." I grinned happily.
"Rubes?" My mom called from the foot of the steps.
"Coming!" I said back. Kim and I went downstairs to my mom.
"I wish I could stay for a bit longer, but I have to head back before it gets dark. You be good now, okay?" my mom said, her voice cracking a bit at the end.
" I promise I'll behave," I said, giving her a hug.
"It comes naturally to her!" Kim said, trying to cheer her up. We laughed.
"Alright, alright. Bye sweetheart, I'll miss you. Promise to call once in a while," mom said.
"Of course. Bye, I love you," I said, giving her a kiss on their cheek.
"I love you, too," she said. She got into the car and we waved goodbye as the car disappeared.
"I can't believe you're here!" Kim squealed. I laughed.
