“Rubes, come on we have school today,” Kim said, shoving my arms.
“I already went yesterday and the day before, and the day before that. Skipping one day isn’t going to kill me,” I muttered into my pillow.
“It is when finals are next week,” she said. I didn’t budge.
“Ruby Maria Koshi, get out of bed,” another voice demanded. I groaned.
“Mom, come on,” I whined.
“Skip tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow’s Saturday!”
“Exactly.” I sighed and reluctantly got up. I got all freshened up. I just changed into sweats and a tank top, not bothering with my outfit.
Jared drove us to school silently. Ever since Ja- you know who’s - confession, I haven’t been around the pack. Kim was the only exception since she’s practically blood related. And Jared because he was joined to Kim’s hip. Thankfully, they knew how to keep their lovey dovey crap when I wasn’t around.
I was heading towards my locker when a familiar figure tried to block me. I walked past him, not glancing at him.
I meant what I said about him not talking to me ever again.
It’s been over a month since the incident but I refuse to talk to him. Although, I’m more hurt than pissed off. I was hurting us both.
“Ruby, please,” he begged softly. I shut my eyes tightly. I didn’t want to look at his face. I knew I’d break. I pushed past him and headed to class.
The day dragged and of course, the pack tried talking to me. I avoided all of them.
“Hey,” Sami said as she came to my locker.
“Hey, what’s up?” I asked with a smile.
“Nothing, listen, um,” she said, fidgeting. “Are you okay?” My smile dropped from my face.
“Is it that noticeable?” She nodded, pursing her lips. I sighed.
“I’m here for you, Jules too,” she said,giving me a hug. I smiled.
“Thanks Sami,” I said, hugging her tightly.
“Wanna sit with us during lunch?” I nodded, thankful. Usually I’d skip out on lunch and just go to the library and listen to music.
I headed to the cafeteria with Sami by my side. We met up with Julie on the way. After getting lunch we went to their table and sat. I met two of their other friends: Sarah and Lily. They were both twins. Naturally beautiful twins. But it was easy to tell them apart because they were so different. Lily was the typical girly type with her curly blonde hair and floral dress whereas Sarah stuck to leggings and tight clothes. We ate and talked and for a split second, I almost forgot about my problems.
Until our eyes met.
His chocolate eyes were red with heavy bags underneath them. It was obvious he hasn’t been sleeping right. He wasn’t even touching his food, but neither was I. His eyes were begging me to come back. Tears began flooding my eyes. I got up abruptly and left, heading to the bathroom, ignoring Julie and Sami calling me. I went into the disabled bathroom stall and cried as hard as I could.
~~~
“Talk to him.”
“No.”
“Rubes, you’re hurting yourself and him!”
“Okay.”
“Stop being so stubborn!”
“Okay.”
“So you’ll talk to him?”
“No.”
Kim yelled out in frustration and left my room. It was obvious I was driving everyone around me crazy. I sighed and threw my pillow at the wall.
I don’t even know who I was pissed off at anymore.
I love Jake, even if he hurt me.
Maybe I’m talking like this because I’m his imprint?
“Jake’s here!” Kim screamed from downstairs. I didn’t reply. I locked my door and hid underneath my bed sheet.
I heard heavy footsteps coming up the stairs. They stopped right in front of my door.
“Rubes,” he whispered softly, but loud enough for me to hear. I curled up into a ball, hugging my legs to my chest.
“I love you so much,” he continued. “I’m sorry, I’m beyond sorry. I was stupid and foolish and it’s not an excuse. I love you so much Ruby, and only you. I’ll drop everything for you. I’ll stop talking to Bella if that’s what you want. Please Rubes, I need you. I need to see you smile because of me. I want to hear you laugh. I wanna see you dance around the room and be all silly in front of me. God I love you. I miss holding you in my arms, kissing you, tickling you, everything. I need you back, babygirl. You’re mine. I don’t care anymore, Rubes I love you so fucking much. Please just open the door before I end up breaking it.”
I opened the door and slammed my lips into his.
