Jacob’s P.O.V

I rolled my eyes at my dad’s remark. Old man I thought. I decided on focusing on Ruby.

“Where are you taking me?” Ruby asked, smiling. Damn, I love her.

“I’m kidnapping you,” I teased, winking at her. She laughed.

“I’m okay with that,” she replied.

“Good.” She smiled. I stopped her and brought her to my chest. She was surprised at first but she hugged back. She buried her face into my chest as her arms wrapped around me. I had the urge to tell her now that I loved her. I wasn’t sure. I pulled away and threw her a smile. She smiled back and we walked around La Push. Eventually, we ended up at the beach. Ruby shivered slightly.

“Cold?” I asked, hiding my concern.

“Kinda,” she said sheepishly. I wrapped my arms around her and rested my head on her shoulder.

“Better?” I asked. She blushed.

“Definitely,” she replied before pecking my cheek. I beamed. We sat down on the sand and watched the people enjoy their day. She sat in between my legs and leaned against me as I leaned against one of the driftwoods.

“Hey, Jacob!” we heard. I turned to see Embry and Quil. I groaned and dug my face into Ruby’s back. Ruby giggled.

“Here come the La Push idiots,” I muttered. Ruby laughed.

“Hey Ruby,” Embry and Quil said.

“Hey guys,” she said. Thankfully, she was friends with my friends. I’m glad. They sat down next to us. I groaned internally. Must they join us?

“So watcha guys been up to?” Quil asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

“As if we’re gonna tell you,” I said as I pecked Ruby’s cheek. She grinned.

“Whoa there, now that’s a big hint,” Embry said, following Quil’s lead.

“Yeah, okay,” Ruby said.

“Hey, what time’s the pa-” Quil began but I cut him off.

“When’s the next bonfire?” I asked rapidly. Quil gave me a quizzical look. I looked at Ruby. He got the hint.

“Bonfire?” Ruby perked.

“Yup, we always have bonfires. I’m pretty sure one’s coming up soon, right Jake?” Embry said. I rolled my eyes, understanding what he meant.

“Sure,” I muttered.

“Who wants to go cliff diving?” Quil asked.

“Me!” Ruby said. We all looked at her as if she grew another pair of feet.

“Since when do you cliff dive?” Embry asked.

“Since forever,” she replied.

“No way!” Quil said, bug-eyed.

“Um yes way,” she said.

“You don’t look like you do,” I commented.

“Trust me, I get that a lot,” she muttered. We chuckled. “Hey, what time is it?”

“It’s almost noon,” Quil said.

“Shit! We need to go!” I said.

“Wha – Oh!” Quil said.

“Yeah, we uh gotta go, see ya later Ruby!” Embry said. The two ran off towards Kim’s place.

“What the hell is going on?!” Ruby asked. I chuckled.

“You’re so cute when you’re mad,” I teased. She rolled her eyes.

“Quit changing the subject,” she muttered. I laughed.

“Come on, you’ll see,” I said. We got up and walked back to Kim’s. I could hear everyone bustling around, as they got ready.

“Jake, seriously, what the hell is going on?” she asked, impatiently as we walked up the front stairs.

“This,” I said and opened the door just in time for everyone to say, “Surprise!” I looked at Ruby and she had a quizzical look.

“What?” she asked. I chuckled. Kim skipped forward.

“It’s been officially two days since you’ve been here!” Kim said as she hugged Ruby.

“Wow Kim, just – wow,” she muttered. “You guys are amazing, thanks.” I grabbed her hand and we all sat down.

“So tell me again why we’re having another party?” Ruby asked as we sat around outside.

“Kim?” Jared said, telling her to explain. She shrugged.

“Just cuz’,” she replied. Ruby threw her hands up in the air in aggravation.

“Okay then,” she muttered.

“We’ll just call it a get together,” Kim said. Ruby rolled her eyes. We enjoyed the rest of the day; we had S’mores, told stories – not the legends – and just hung out. Eventually I had to go patrol.

“I have to go,” I told Ruby. It was just the two of us on the swings in her backyard. Everyone else was inside or just wandering around. She pouted. I smiled and leaned over to plant a kiss on her lips.

“When will you be back?” she asked.

“Tomorrow.” She threw me a knowing smile.

“I know you’ll be here tomorrow, I meant what time?”

“Around two, I guess.” I saw her jut her lower lip out a little.

“Okay,” she said.  I got off the swing and stood in front of her. I bent down and held onto both sides of the swing she occupied.

“Want me to come earlier?” I murmured. She was mesmerized. It took her a while before she finally responded.

“If you want,” she said.

“I’ll be here at eleven,” I said. She grinned.

“Jacob, let’s go!” Billy said from the back porch.

“I’m coming,” I said back. I took Ruby’s hand and we walked back inside. Most of the pack had already left. It was just Jared, Embry, Seth, and Leah. I wonder why Leah’s still hanging around here. Usually she’s the first one gone. That’s when I noticed something. She was actually smiling! I never knew she could smile! Well, I did but it was rare when you see her smile genuinely. She even seemed like she was having fun.

“Lee-bear!” Ruby said as she hugged Leah. What. The. Hell. Leah laughed. She actually laughed. And hugged Ruby.

“Hey Roo-bear,” Leah said.

“Sounds like Pooh bear,” Seth muttered. Leah and Ruby smacked him across the back of the head while everyone else laughed.

Ruby came back to my side and walked me to the door.

“Miss you already,” I murmured as I held her waist and rested my forehead on hers.

“Miss you too,” she whispered back. I pecked her lips and kissed her forehead.

“Bye Rubes.”

“Bye Jake.” I gave her one last hug and walked back to the Rabbit where my father was waiting with a smirk.

“She really is the one,” Billy said as I got in.

“You have no idea,” I murmured as I drove back home.
