*George's POV*
Everything was numb but my heart, it felt like there was a hole in it and every time it beat it hurt so much I occasionally had to grasp at my chest and wait for the feeling to pass. I dressed in black robes, walking down the stairs to the common room of Gryffindor tower. The funeral was today. Everyone had stayed in order to attend.
In the common room stood Ginny, she looked up at me and ran into my arms, we hugged for a long time, I felt her tears on my shirt and I frowned as I looked over at the stairs. I was waiting for Fred to come down...but he'd never come down. Not ever again. I clutched my chest at the pain and groaned.
"Mum said we can go to St. Mungo's after everything," Ginny said quietly.
I nodded, not meeting her gaze, her eyes were brown. Just as brown as Fred's. Just as brown as Kayley's. I couldn't even look at my own sister. Ginny sensed something and stepped away, "was Ron up when you left?"
"I shared a room with Lee and Percy," I whispered.
Ginny nodded as footsteps sounded over my shoulder, I looked up and saw Ron standing with his hands in his pockets. I pulled him into a hug when he stepped closer to us. The three of us embraced as time passed, when we stepped apart mum and dad stood watching us. Tears in their eyes.
"Go on ahead, I'm going to wait for Hermione and Harry," Ron whispered.
The rest of us shoved off downstairs, Ginny grabbed my hand as we passed all the destruction the school had gone through. We made it to the Great Hall without a word, no one spoke as we sat down at the Gryffindor table, everyone was dressed in black, staring at the table as the survivors filled the hall.
When it came time for the funeral, I was shaking. I know Fred's name would appear...but would hers? I wasn't sure. I hadn't seen Oliver or Neville before I went to bed, that was around six in the morning. I was trembling in my seat, not wanting to move, knowing that if I took one step I'd fall to the ground.
I felt hands on my shoulders and I looked up, Bill and Charlie stood above me, helping me up. They placed their arms around me before we began to walk. Up ahead I spotted Wood, I practically pushed Bill and Charlie to the ground as I ran toward the quidditch player. "Oliver!" I shouted, he turned around. His face red and grave as I approached. "What happened? How is she?" my voice quivered slightly.
Oliver looked over my shoulder and sighed, "I'll take you to her after the service."
My heart fell....what did that entail?
Bill and Charlie reappeared and I fell into step with them, their arms finding my shoulders as we walked down the grounds where a giant plaque with the names of the deceased stood beside the lake. I strained to see the full list, my eyes darting over to where the students with 'S's were. I scanned it several times, but never saw her name. I let out a shaky breath, feeling my chest fill with some variation of hope.
Charlie clapped my shoulder, giving me a sympathetic smile, "we'll go see her."
I smiled slightly, feeling a little better at the simple fact that her name was nowhere to be seen. But the feeling didn't last long, Fred's name was up there. Lupin...Tonks....Collin Creevy...I closed my eyes...so many people I knew were now dead. But it was over and their memories would be remembered for the rest of time.
I wonder if Professor Bins will teach future students the history of this battle...
No one moved after the ceremony, I think the shock was too great to handle, but after a while people began to move. When I stood Ginny and Ron stepped closer to Bill, Charlie and I.
"Well, ready for Mungo's?" Ginny prompted.
"You're not all going?" I asked confused.
They all nodded, "we're all going with you, George. Don't try and stop us," Charlie smiled.
"But...why?"
"Because this girl means the world to you and we won't make you go through this alone," Ginny answered.
"You don't all need to go," I countered.
"Alright, then Ginny and I," Ron said. "We're not letting you go alone."
I looked at Bill and Charlie who nodded in agreement, they appeared to have thought this through before talking to me. "Alright, let's go then."
"Meet at the Burrow when you're done," Charlie said as he hugged me.
"George, are you ready?" Oliver asked, when he came over Neville was standing beside him along with Seamus.
"What're you doing here?" I growled toward Seamus.
"You don't scare me George, I'm going to see my friend," Seamus stuck out his jaw.
"George, just let him come along," Ginny spoke quietly beside me. I let out a deep breath and sighed. Nodding my head slightly.
Together the group of us apparated to an alleyway that was a few blocks from St. Mungo's, Oliver and Neville led the way, leading us up the stairs to a white hall with separate rooms on the intensive care floor. Oliver led us to the fifth door on the left, he paused in front of it, he looked at the group of us as he frowned.
"I think only George should go in with Neville and I first so we can talk," he said aloud.
There was a general protest which finally came to a small agreement, Oliver opened the door very slowly, once he did he stepped away to let me enter. The sight was sickening.
IVs and various tubes were stuck in her arms, her body was basically a giant bandage, her torso was wrapped up along with her arms and her left leg. she had wires around her nose and a tube was hanging from her mouth...she looked so small covered in medical equipment. I clasped my hands over my mouth, Oliver gently touched my shoulder as he watched me.
"What....what's..." I couldn't form any coherent sentence as I studied her.
"Kayley--"
"Don't say her name," I snapped at Neville. Only I could, only I was worthy enough to say her name. She was my girl and mine alone.
Neville and Oliver shared a look, "Sorrin," Neville paused but I didn't mind if he used her surname. "Is in a coma."
"We were lucky," Oliver nodded.
"She barely made it, they told us," Neville whispered.
I fell back into a chair behind me, Oliver knelt before me, "George, she's going to be fine."
I looked up, looking at all the wires and equipment that she was hooked to, "how long do they think she'll be in a coma?"
"It's hard to say....those snake bites were awful. But they don't know," Neville sighed.
"Then I'll wait here until she does wake up."
"George, they said it could take months," Oliver said.
"Then I won't leave this spot for months," I growled.
"You can't be--" Oliver cut Neville off with a look who sighed.
"Thank you, both of you, for bringing her," I whispered.
Oliver and Neville smiled, "of course."
"We'll give you some alone time," Oliver said quietly.
"No, let the others in..." I waved them off and stood up, they looked uncertainly at each other and nodded before opening the door and allowing Ginny and Ron to enter.
