I never got the letter, and I was starting to become a nervous wreck as the days passed without a word. I'd given up waiting before deciding to take matters into my own hands, I ran down the hall and pushed the door open. Kayley was sitting there, fewer wires and IVs hung around her, the heart monitor beating like normal. I leaned against the wall and laughed a sigh of relief.
She was alright....
I took her hand in mine, it was much warmer than it had been before, I brushed the fringe from her eyes and sighed. I hadn't wanted to know what I thought happened on Christmas, not entirely at least, I didn't want to think about that. I hadn't even told anyone. The only people who knew were Draco and myself.
"I'm so happy to see you...but you have to wake up. I need you," I pleaded, clutching her hand to my chest. "Please...Kayley...I love you, you can't leave me."
I closed my eyes, resting my forehead on hers, feeling the astounding warmth against my skin.
"I love you too."
I opened my eyes, keeping my forehead pressed to Kayley's.
I looked up and found the room empty but for myself, I looked back down to Kayley.
I dropped her hands as if they were fire, staring into the almond brown eyes of Kayley Sorrin with shock. "K-K-Kayley?" I stammered as I backed away.
"I'm pretty sure," Kayley spoke again. Her eyes racked me over before she frowned, " what the bloody hell happened to you?" Her voice was very quiet and scratchy, I stepped closer to her, gently touching her face.
"I'm not dreaming, correct?" I questioned.
Kayley shook her head very slowly, I was shaking uncontrollably as I pulled her into a tight hug. Tears began to brim my vision as I held Kayley close to me. If I was dreaming...this was a sick dream.
"Kayley. I can't believe it's you, you're awake! You're finally awake!" I rambled as I held her tightly to me. I began kissing the top of her head, cringing at the scent of sanitizer the hospital seemed to leave behind. "You don't know how long I've waited to see those beautiful eyes of yours," the tears spilled over but I didn't care. I had my Kayley back.
When I released her, Kayley's healer walked in before Kayley could speak. When she saw me she was very shocked, "Mr. Weasley...." she closed her eyes and sighed, "can you please step outside?"
I nodded, she closed the door behind her and smiled. "As you can see, Miss Sorrin is up from her coma," she motioned to the door.
"When did it happen?" I questioned.
"Well. On Christmas Eve she was crashing, we almost lost her but then we managed to stabilize her. Yesterday she opened her eyes, I meant to send you a letter after everything...but it slipped from my mind to be completely honest," she closed her eyes seeming slightly upset over her mistake. "She was a very special case and it was so astounding-"
"Honestly, it's alright," I said weakly, even though just that morning I had been horribly mad and distraught that there was no news.
"She's free to leave tomorrow, or the following day, if her vitals are round average today, excuse me for one moment," I watched the healer slip back into the room. I stood outside for several minutes, staring at the door, Kayley was awake...my Kayley was..alive! Kayley's healer walked back outside, she was smiling happily, "Miss Sorrin can leave tomorrow. You may go in and see her while I work on her charts. But I want her to see me monthly for the next several months."
