The whistle finally blows and everybody stands as they cheer on the men with the grand feast before them.
How did they make eating food such a brutal looking task?
"I'm guessing the first to finish is the winner?" I ask, dubiously staring at the rapidly decreasing number of hot dogs.
"That's right." Darius answers distractedly as he watches on avidly.
"Are you enjoying this as much as I am, Luna?" Marina asks with a bored expression on her face.
I nod on a small laugh and watch as Morgan demolishes his plate way ahead of Paul and down a large glass of water before the crowd cheers him. I clap respectfully but frown when Paul flips his table over in anger and stalks towards the obvious winner.
Someone didn't take losing lightly.
"You cheated, mutt!" Paul growls.
"You're making a fool of yourself, Paul." Morgan warns, shaking off Paul's shove at him.
"He always has to get into a fight when the Alpha isn't here." Marina scowls in disapproval.
"Let him, he'll get himself killed one day." Darius murmurs.
...
Trying to sleep on a bed other than the one I had grown so accustomed to in Micah's home felt strange at first. As I roll around the large bed all to myself in Dmitri's bedroom, I begin to wonder where he went to and what he's up to; I felt like there was something going on but his facial expressions concealed everything he didn't want anyone to know about. Even his pack didn't seem to know where Dmitri had gone.
Darius told me that the Alpha would let them know when the time is right... whatever that meant.
Soon enough, I fall asleep, Dmitri's face flashing in my dreams.
Surprisingly, the next day I find myself searching out for Dmitri's scent and my wolf whines when I come up empty. Darius and Marina take me to breakfast and I'm shocked to find two Weres snarling and snapping at each other.
"Isn't anybody going to stop that fight?" I ask worriedly.
"Nah, they'll sort things out between themselves. It's always like this here, like one big dysfunctional family." Darius shrugs.
My eyes widen in amazement before the smell of food hits me and my wolf perks up.
"So where's Dmitri's family? Are they really dead?"" I ask after a couple bites into my food.
Marina and Darius both freeze and exchange glances, making me want to bite my tongue for being nosey.
"Dmitri's family aren't around anymore, you should ask him if you want to know more. It's not really in our place to..." Darius shrugs awkwardly.
Dmitri couldn't be doing everything wrong, his pack seemed really respectful and loyal to him; there seemed a lot that outsiders didn't know about Blood Moon Pack.
As I stand after finishing breakfast, a group of women walk towards me but Darius and Marina block them by standing side by side in front of me.
"We just want to give the Luna a personal welcome." A woman, a few years older than me, stands before the six women in total.
I place a hand on Marina's shoulder and she relaxes before my guards step aside and let the women come closer.
"Welcome Luna, my name is Mia." The woman smiles at me before shaking her hand.
I notice a burn scar along her collar bone and up one side of her neck, slightly hidden by my shoulder length chestnut brown hair; she catches me staring and tucks her hair behind her ear, letting me see the full extent of it.
