[Dmitri POV]
"What was so urgent that you needed to take my attention away from my mate." The Alpha growls as he walks to his office with his Beta.
"We followed up on the name the rogue gave us and it's the very same Nicholas from... that time, Alpha." Logan explains.
Dmitri tenses with his back to the Beta, wondering how he long he would be able to keep his composure.
"I also found out where he and his complied group of rogues are and wanted to let you know before they moved locations if you wanted to pursue this." Logan continues as Dmitri turns to face him.
The Alpha's brief eyebrow twitch told Logan that he was considering the idea of ambushing and getting it over and done with once and for all.
"We'll let them come to us, Nicholas and I can finally settle this very drawn out enmity." Dmitri murmurs, turning to face the window again and leaning against the frame as he looks over the expanse of his territory.
"Have you told her about Nicholas? You must now know why he's doing this to you." The Beta asks after a few silent moments.
"No, she knows everything except that." He sighs, running a hand through his hair.
His past mistakes were haunting him and trying to take what he held so dear; Dmitri would rather end himself than see Cassandra lifeless before him.
Nicholas was only just a persistent head ache that needed careful considering when attempting to get rid of; for once something that was going to take careful planning rather than easily rubbing out the lives of those who made things difficult for him.
The monster within him stirred at the thought of more bloodshed, causing Dmitri to close his eyes tightly, reigning in the very thing that could possible destroy everything; it was stopping him from sinking his teeth into Cass' neck and sealing their mate bond, the monster within him always creeped to the surface and threatened to do something that couldn't be undone.
"The pack wants to see their Luna, Dmitri."
"They'll have to wait, she's resting."
With that, Dmitri stalks back to the bedroom where his mate was now fast asleep and climbs into the bed, wrapping his arm protectively around her mid-section and pulling her close towards him.
[Cassandra POV]
When my eyes crack open, the light that I had expected to stream into my vision wasn't there; it took me a little too long to realise that it was dark out.
How long had I been asleep?
As I shift, I feel something wrapped around me and my insides stir when I sense Dmitri pressed up behind me. Wriggling boldly into him, I smile when he tightens his grip around me and growls softly; I couldn't deny that it felt more than great to be in his arms.
~You shouldn't have left him!~ My wolf continues to chastise me.
"In one way, you leaving made me realise how much I had to learn about you, angel." Dmitri murmurs into my ear.
See! He wouldn't have said this if I hadn't left. I reply to my wolf.
I hear her growl and I hold back a smirk.
Turning to face him, I lean in and press my lips against his neck, breathing his unique, hint of men's shampoo and husky aftershave scent.
"I could say the same about you." I look up at him.
Dmitri ducks under and nips my ear with his teeth, making me gasp in surprise at the sudden sensation.
My stomach suddenly rumbles, breaking the moment as I realise that I was feeling particularly peckish.
"Come, you need to eat." Dmitri lifts me up out of the bed but I rush to the wardrobe and cover my less than dressed body with a pair of blue jeans and grey sweater.
Taking his outstretched hand, we head to the eating area and will my heart to slow down; I hadn't seen the Blood Moon Pack in forever and it was putting me on edge.
Just remember your time with Uncharted, Cass.
...
"We knew you'd always come back, Luna." Marina beams at me when I choose to sit beside her and Darius.
When Dmitri arrived into the eating area with me beside him, the pack all fell into silence before Dmitri gave them all death stares; before I knew it, I was being welcomed with hugs and bows making me realise that this truly was the pack I belonged to.
"I have to admit, I kinda missed you guys." I chuckle between bites into my burger.
"You're only saying it so we can't be mad or anything." Darius pokes my arm jokingly.
I laugh at my mock sad face and shove at him.
"Man up." I beam.
"The Uncharted have ruined you, when did you get so bold!" Marina pretends to gasp in shock.
"Try spending a year with Lycans and you'll get the answer." I raise a brow.
Though at first they seemed overbearing, I really enjoyed staying with the Lycans; I'll have to ask Dmitri if I could go again.
Doubt he'll say yes.
...
Days pass rapidly and before I know it, the moon will soon be full and i will go into my heat. For the past year, my heat had been painful and very unsatisfactory without having my mate beside me; but now, my wolf was jumping in glee at the prospect of having Dmitri beside me.
"What're you smiling away about?" Dimitri's arms appear out of nowhere and snake around my waist as I'm stood in the kitchen.
"Womanly thoughts." I smirk back as I try to concentrate on the task of making sure the food before me didn't burn right before my eyes.
Dmitri hums against my neck, pressing me close against him and making me forget how to breathe for a couple seconds.
"Why don't you forget them and come to bed."
Dmitri had been very seductive the past couple days; more than once we had be caught making out by either Darius and Marina or Logan. with the upcoming full moon, my body had taken subtle changes to prepare for the heat; Dmitri had said my scent was much stronger and I had noticed how my hips had gotten wider and my boobs were...larger.
making it harder for Dmitri to keep his hands off me.
He didn't seem concerned about what would happen after my heat, but i was a tad afraid of knowing that he'd be taken over by something so dangerous that he'd have to be locked up for a while.
"I need to finish this." i reply when i realise Dmitri was waiting for my answer.
"Something's wrong." He says instantly.
Damn it, why did he know so well?
"It's nothing." I shake my head rapidly.
"Angel." Dmitri's tone deepens, letting me know that he wasn't going to let this go easy.
"I'm just nervous about leaving you all alone to face your demons." I mutter, turning to face him.
His face softens instantly and he lets out a small sigh before leaning in to press his lips against my forehead.
"I'll be fine, I've been doing this for years now." He murmurs, letting me go so I could go back to the stove.
"Yeah well... you're not alone anymore." I say quietly.
