[Cass POV]
I knew I wasn't dead...yet when I once again could feel the almost overwhelming pain in my thigh but the internal struggle to move or even open my eyes gave away the fact that I had lost a lot of blood.
Dmitri had been strong enough to carry me back to the car and drive home; I knew how much energy was drained from him every time his not so favourable wolf comes out. Something calloused yet gentle was moving rhythmically along the palm of my hand and I manage to wrap my hand around the warm, larger one.
Dmitri.
Opening my eyes ever so slightly, I send him a small smile and he squeezes my hand back in response.
"You're awake." He murmurs.
"Only just." I try to say but it comes out sounding like an old man.
I try to clear my throat but there is too much pain.
Dmitri leans forward and presses his lips against my forehead, making me close my eyes briefly and slowly breathe in his familiar scent.
"For a quick second, I thought I'd lose you back then." He says as he leans back.
"Not just yet." I attempt a smirk but I was sure it came out looking more like a grimace.
I catch movement going on behind Dmitri and notice my brother peering through the door, beaming at me.
"Cass! You've finally decided to grace us with your presence." Clark rushes towards me and is about to hug me but thinks twice and sits beside me on the bed instead.
"I'll leave you two to it." Dmitri murmurs before standing and leaving my brother and I alone.
"Is Phoebe with you?" I murmur after the door closes.
Clark nods, "She's doing quite well considering we're in the territory of a very feared pack and to be honest you're people aren't so bad." He shrugs.
"How long have I been out?" I narrow my brows.
"Just two days."
I raise a brow; no wonder why Dmitri has been going out of his mind in worry.
Clark's phone shrills, breaking me away from my inner thoughts and he fishes it out, his face brightening before answering the call.
"She awake yet!" I hear Hunter almost yell over what sounded like music.
I was guessing Clark let the whole Lycan pack know what had happened.
"Yeah, she's right here."
Clark shoves the phone near my face and I'm surprised to see Hunter, Kellie and Alex in the frame coupled with Ben and Tomen trying to shove themselves into view.
"Hey guys." I laugh softly.
"Damn, you look like shit, Luna!" Ben chortles before he's shoved out of the way by Kellie.
"It's good to see you're still kicking." Kellie smiles, waving at me.
I nod slowly and thank them for worrying about me.
"Is Micah around?" I ask.
Alex reaches towards the phone, his hand obscuring the camera before Micah's face is visible.
"Cassandra." Micah says my name in form of greeting, his face blank but his honey eyes strained around the edges, giving away the fact that he was worried.
"Hey, you okay?" I attempt sitting up and smile at my brother when he leans forward and helps me sit against the headboard of the bed.
"I think I should be the one asking you the question; you've not lost any limbs have you?" He raises a brow.
"No, your training came in very good use." I snort.
"Glad to hear it, don't do too much and concentrate on getting better-"
Suddenly Clark's screen goes black and I look up at him in confusion.
"Ah shit, the battery died." He groans.
"It's cool, we can call back later." I shrug.
...
When I wake up again, I feel Dmitri lay behind me his arms wrapped around me and nose buried deep in my hair.
"How are you not dying in my fumes, I must stink." I groan, turning over to face him; my thigh felt much better than the day before and I was sure I'd be able to limp my way around.
"Your hair smells divine, only...I think you need a breath mint."
I gently shove him and Dmitri lets out a small snort.
"Is this it then? Nicholas and the rogues, they're gone forever, right?" I ask.
"Yes they are, I'm the only monster left now." He murmurs, his grey eyes clouded over like an overdue storm.
Turning to face him again, I carefully and slowly climb on top of him, resting my arms on his chest as he supports me by resting his hand on my backside.
"You're not a monster...all the time; you're not one to me or your pack because we love you and know how you're actually very caring underneath all that tough skin." I say, brushing his dark hair back to kiss all over his face.
"You're certainly the best thing that has ever happened to me, Cassandra Woods." Dmitri murmurs.
"I know." I smile.
[5 years later]
"Tyler!" Dmitri yells which quickly followed by the mischievous giggle of our little boy.
I wait, sat back on a picnic towel enjoying the bright sun, as both my mate and our son come barreling through the bushes; Dmitri with Tyler over his shoulder.
I let out a laugh when I notice Dmitri crisp white shirt stained by orange juice.
"What has he done now?" I smirk.
"What hasn't he done." Dmitri shakes his head, a hint of a smile on his sinful looking lips as he sits on the towel facing me.
Tyler's previously somewhat tidy hair was now an unkempt dirty blonde mess; for a four year old our son was everything a Werewolf toddler should be.
"Daddy said he like orange juice." Tyler crawls off his father and climbs onto me.
"Careful with Momma." Dmitri warns, his eyes trained on my bulging abdomen.
I let Tyler wrap his chubby arms around my neck in a hug as I hold him towards me, kissing his soft cheeks.
"How's our baby girl today?" My mate asks, reaching over to caress my baby bump.
"Surprisingly quiet today." I raise a brow.
"Maybe she'll calm this one down when she arrives." Dmitri nods to Tyler who had now managed to grab hold of his father's phone.
I shake my head on a smile, knowing that Dmitri's wish was very unlikely.
"Logan gave me this, it came this morning." I hand Dmitri a folded piece of fancy looking card, closed by a red wax seal with the royal werewolf stamp.
I wait as Dmitri opens it and quickly scan through it before looking up at me.
"Our pack has been invited to the royal annual gathering." He states.
