Chapter 1

*Casey POV*
"Mom" I yell
"What" she asks
"Can I go sleep over at Megan's tonight Nicole is" I ask
"Go ahead" she says
"Ok well I'm going to head over there now" I say
"Ok be careful" she says
I go up to my room and pack a bag. I walk outside and a few blocks to one of my best friends house. I go inside and I'm tackled.
"Megan and Nicole please get off I would like to breath" I say
"Aww does little Casey need air" Nicole mocks
"Yes now get off before I bite. I just sharpened my teeth this morning" I say
"I don't think it's possible to sharpen teeth" Nicole says
They get off and Megan helps me up.
"Did you guys do the math homework yet" I ask
"Casey it's almost Christmas break no one cares about homework" Nicole says
"I did it and next weeks homework" Megan says
"Of course you did" Nicole and I say
I look at Megan and she's sad again.
"What's wrong Megan" I ask
"They're fighting again and my two older brothers are going to college soon" she says
"Hey turn that frown upside down. You get to hang out with your best friends" Nicole says
"My only friends" Megan says
"Here lets go up to your room and talk" I say
"And listen to Anthem Lights!" Nicole shouts
"Nicole no shouting" Megan's mom says
"Sorry" Nicole says
"It's fine. Megan I need you to watch Nick and Owen for me while I take John, Kyle, and Luke to the mall" Megan's mom says
"Why can't John or Kyle just drive they have their own cars" she says
"Please" her mom says
"Mom but" she says
"Look they're both taking their naps" her mom says
"Fine" Megan grumbles
They leave and we go up to her room. Megan flops down on her bed and buries her head in her pillow.
"You ok Megs" Nicole asks
"Yeah" she mumbles
*Megan's POV*
I hate my life. I'm the only girl in my family and the only time I get to hang out with girls is when I'm with my friends. I hear Casey turn on the radio and Anthem lights turn on. We all get up and start dancing. The song finishes and we all sit on my bed.
'You and two friends could win the chance to spend Christmas with anthem lights. All you have to do is be the hundredth caller and answer the question right.' The radio person says
We all pull out our phones and call. After a few minutes the other two hang up and shake their heads no.
'Hello caller number 100 what's your name' the person says
"Megan" I say
'Well Megan why does Joey Stamper like goldfish'
"Because they let him do his things and they can do theirs" I say
'Congratulations you just won Christmas with anthem lights'
I answer mailing questions and stuff then hang up. The girls stare at me with smiles on their faces. I smile for a little bit then frown.
"Megan why aren't you happy" Nicole asks
"We won't be able to afford the trip." I say
"What if you get your parents to pay half and you pay half" Casey suggests
"Yes!" I cheer
We group hug then we hear crying.
"That's Owen. I better go get him" I say
I let go and go to Owen and Nick's room. I pick Owen up from his crib.
"Meggy" I hear Nick mumble
"Yes Nicky" I say
"Where are Mommy and Daddy" he asks
"Daddy's at work and Mommy's at the store with our older brothers. Casey and Nicole are here" I say
He stands up on his bed and reaches his arms out to me. I pick him up and hold him on my other hip. I walk to my room and set him on my bed. I put Owen in the pack n play they keep set up.
"Ok girls we should probably text our parents and ask because the person in the radio said the letter would come today and then if we could go we would leave in two or three days" I say
"Wait when does the mail get here" Casey asks
"Actually the mailman just left" I say looking out the window
"Ok we'll watch your brothers go down and check" Nicole says
I go downstairs and outside. I grab the mail and go back in. I sort through it and find my mail. I find the letter and go upstairs. I enter my room and find Owen crying and Nick playing with my phone. I hand the letter to Casey and pick Owen up. I rock him for a little bit and place him on the floor.
"Hey Nick why don't you go to your room and play with your cars" I say
He gets off my bed and runs to his room.
"How old are your brothers" Nicole asks
"Um John and Kyle are 19. Like is 17. Nick is 3. Owen is 5 months" I say
"Wow and you remember all their ages and birthdays." Casey says
"Yeah but I usually end up forgetting my own until you two text me" I say
Casey hands me the letter and I open it. It has papers for our parents to fill out. I hand everyone their sheets.
"Hey is it okay if we go home and get these filled out real quick then come back so we can mail it to anthem lights" Nicole asks
"Of course" I say
They leave an a few minutes later my mom, brothers, and dad walk in. My brothers go downstairs to the basement and my dad walks to his office. I sit down on the couch next to my mom.
"Thank you so much Megan for watching the boys all the time. I'm so sorry for pulling you away from your friends all the time" she says
"It's fine but I have a question for you" I say
"Ask away" she says
"Ok so while you were gone there was a radio competition and I won. Me and two friends get to go and spend Christmas with my favorite band Anthem Lights. Can I go please. I'll pay for half of the trip if you pay for the other half" I say
"I don't see why not but ask your father" she says
I turn around and see my dad standing there.
"I heard and I think it would be a good idea for you to get away from having to live with your brothers for a few days" he says
I give him a hug then my mom. I give them the paper and they fill it out. They give me a check and I hear Casey and Nicole walking in. We run upstairs and I grab an envelope. I write a note and address the envelope. We put the stuff in it then go seal it.
"I'm going to ask Kyle if he can take us to the post office" I say
"Why not John" Casey whines
"Why not Luke" Nicole whines
"Kyle is my favorite" I whine
We crack up laughing and go down to the basement. I see a air hockey puck flying at my face and I catch it.
"Hey sis" Luke says
"Kyle we need you to drive us to the post office please" I say
"Why me" he whines
"Because I can pull up that photo from last week that Nick accidentally took with your phone" I say
"Ok lets go" he says
We walk away and I feel someone tap my shoulder.
"Yes John" I ask
"How did you know it was me" he asks
"By the firm grip. You're stronger then both of them and Kyle is stronger then Luke" I say
"Ok well can we have the puck" he asks
I hand him the puck and follow the girls upstairs. We get in Kyle's car and he drives to the post office. We mail the letter and he drives past our house.
"Where are we going Kyle" Casey complains
"Quiet Casey" he says
"Kyle where are you taking us" Nicole asks
"Guys he's taking us out for dinner because him and John have bad news" I say
"Woah how do you know that" Kyle asks
"I saw John's text appear" I say
"Ok" he says
We get to the restaurant and go inside. I sit down next to Casey and Kyle. Nicole next to Casey and John next to Kyle.
"Ok so Megan Kyle and I aren't going to college" John says
"Where are you going" I ask
"We're going into the army. We already were drafted and we were sent to go overseas." Kyle says
"For how long" I ask
"Five years" John says
I get up from the table and run. I see Casey and Nicole get up and follow me. I sit down on a bench outside and they sit in either side of me.
"My life is falling apart" I say
"No it's not" Casey says
"Casey my brothers will be gone for 5 years. I heard my parents talking about a divorce and my dad keeping the house which means we'd move. My dad doesn't want anything to do with us kids. My mom will have like no money so is have to get a job and stop school and help take care of my brothers" I say
"Hey it will be okay" Nicole says
"Yeah. We'll still always be friends and imagine in just two days we'll be in Nashville with our favorite band" Casey says
"You guys are right I should be happy" I say
I stand up and give them a hug. We go inside and I hag my brothers. We sit down and finish eating. We leave the restaurant and go home. We get home and go to my room.
"Ok so the plane leaves on Friday at 3 am and the guys will pick us up at noon" I say
"Why are you so organized" Nicole asks
"Because I'm the most mature" I say
"Yeah right" Casey says
"Who has a folder labeled with both of your names to hold papers that are important so you don't lose them" I ask
"Ok ok you win" Casey says
"Girls you should go to bed" I hear my mom says
"We will" we say
"Ok who wants to sleep on the floor this time" I ask
"Not me" they say
"Ok fine I'll sleep on the floor this time you two on my bed" I say
We hear a knock on my door and I open it.
"What is it Nick" I ask
"Me scared can I sleep with you free" he asks
"Of course" I say
I set up a sleeping bag for him next to me. I turn the light off and turn the night light on that I have for Nick.
"Good night Girls and Nick" I say
"Good night" I hear
I lay down and fall asleep quickly.

(Friday)
I wake up at 2 am and grab my bags. I go downstairs and get some breakfast. John walks in and kisses the too of my head.
"Morning bubby" I say
"Morning sis" he says
"Who's driving me and the girls to the airport" I ask
"Me and Kyle" he says
"Ok" I sigh
"What's wrong" he asks
"Nothing" I say
"Megan don't lie to me" he says
"It's like mom doesn't have anytime for me. I could probably run away or something and they wouldn't notice" I say
"Yeah but Nick would. He looks up to you. I'm pretty sure he's your favorite. And no one else know how to care for Owen besides you and mom. No one can calm Luke down if he has a melt down and those happen daily. Once Kyle and I leave mom and dad will need all the help he can get" he says
"Thanks John" I say
"No problem" he says
He gives me a hi and Kyle walks in. He joins our hug and we pull away.
"We better get going" Kyle says
We get in the van and we get to Casey's first. She puts her bags in the trunk then hops in back next to me. We get to Nicole's and she does the same. We get to the airport and climb out we hug my brothers and I say a last goodbye we go through security and stuff then board our plane.
"Anthem lights here we come" I smile
"Wow someone is bright and cheerful for once" Casey says
"Yeah it's because I'm happy and ready for this trip" I say
"Me too" they agree
Once the plane is in the air the other two are asleep. I pull my phone out and see a text from Luke.
L-have a fun trip and be safe love you
M-love you to
I put my phone away and fall asleep. I wake up and look at my phone. It's 11:30.
'Attention all passengers. Please buckle up we're about to land' the lady says
I wake the other two up and they buckle. Once we land we go to baggage claim and grab out bags. We walk it side and find the guys. We walk over to them.
"Hi I'm Megan this is Casey and Nicole we're the girls who won the Christmas competition" I say
"Well hello girls I assume you know who we are so why don't we head out" Alan says
The guys take our bags and follow them to a van. We climb in the back and the guys get in.
"Ok so I believe we decided you three can choose who you guys stay with" Caleb says
"Um well I want to stay at Alan's please" Casey says
"chad's" Nicole says
"What about you Megan" Joey asks
"Huh" I say
"They want to know who you want to stay with" Casey says
"Um Caleb" I say
"Sorry Joe looks like your lonely" Alan says
"That's fine. Donald is staying over anyway" he says
I laugh to myself and everyone but Alan looks at me.
"You okay there Megan" Chad asks
"Yeah I was just picturing my brothers fighting and goofing off" I say
"How many do you have" Alan asks
"3 older and 2 younger" I say
"Any sisters" Caleb asks
"Sadly no" I say
"That stinks" Joey says
"I'm use to it" I say
"What about you two girls" Caleb asks
"Older brother and younger brother" Casey says
"younger sister and older brother" Nicole says
"Wow so Nicole is the only one with a sister" Caleb says
"Eh I got use to living with die brothers" I say
*Nicole POV*
We get to a house and we all get out.
"Ok here's my house. We're going to introduce you to everyone then then everyone will go their separate ways." Alan says
"Ok" we all say
We go inside and are attacked by three children. We each pick one up.
"Sorry about that. Ever since I mentioned you girls coming these three have been super excited" Alan laughs
"It's totally fine" I say
"Ok well lets start with the kids" Chad says
"Megan your holding Rowe. Casey your holding Presley. And Nicole your holding AJ" Joey says
We set them down and follow the guys to the living room.
"Ok these are our wives Kelsey, Fallon, and Brycie. Ladies this is Megan, Casey, and Nicole" Caleb says
"Nice to meet you" the ladies say
"Casey is staying here, Nicole is staying at Chad and Fallon's, Megan is staying at Caleb and Kelsey's" Alan says
"Well why don't we all go home and let these girls unpack an get settled in." Kelsey says
Everyone but the Powell's and Casey leave. We get in vehicles and leave. I get to the Graham's and Chad grabs my bags.
"Chad I can carry those" I say
"Yeah and so can I" he says
"I suggest you to let him carry them. He'll argue all day long" Fallon says
"Ok" I laugh
We go inside and Chad shows me to a guest room.
"Go ahead and unpack. Fallon and I will be downstairs" he says
"Ok thank you" I say
He leaves and I start unpacking. I send my mom and dad a text then go downstairs.
"You done" he asks
"Yeah" I say
"Ok want to tell us a little about your self" he asks
"Um I like sports. I don't really like school. I like colors green and red. My favorite holiday is Christmas. Casey Megan and I have been friends since Kindergarten." I say
"What sports do you play" Fallon asks
"Soccer, track, softball, basketball, swimming, cross country and so on" I say
"Ok so are you the crazy one in the group" Chad asks
"Actually Casey is. Megan is the mature one and I'm the crazy but calm one" I say
"Ok" he says
*Casey POV*
"Well now that everyone is gone" Alan says
"Daddy can I show her to her room" AJ asks
"Sure AJ go ahead and show Casey to her room" he says
"Follow me"AJ says
I grab my bags and follow AJ up the stairs. She takes me to a room and sits on the bed. I place my bags on the floor and sit next to her.
"Do you know how to braid hair" AJ asks
"Yep" I say
"Can you do it? Mommy is making dinner and daddy can't do it" she says
"Of course" I say
She grabs my hand and drags me to her room she gives me her hair brush and sits down. I brush her hair then braid it. I finish and she gives me a hug.
"Well I need to go and unpack some. I'll be downstairs soon" I say
"Ok" she says
She runs off and I go back to the guest room. I unpack and go downstairs. I sit in the couch and Presley runs over to me. I pick her up and set her on my lap.
"Thank you for braiding AJ's hair apparently I'm bad at it" Alan says
"So I've been told but lets be honest out of Megan's five brothers only one can braid hair and that's because we would force him to braid ours" I say
"What about her mom" Alan asks
"I don't think I should talk about it without her explaining it" I say
"That's fine." He says
"We're all meeting at Caleb's for dinner" Alan says
*Megan POV*
We get to the Grimm's and go inside. Caleb leads me to my room I'll be staying in and I out my bags down. I follow him back downstairs.
"Since you have three older brothers I suspect you're really good at Mario kart" he says
"You are so on" I say
He passes me an Xbox controller and turns the game on.
"Kels you want to join us" Caleb calls out
"What are you playing" she asks
"Mario kart" he says
"I'll pass" she says
We play a few games and we tie.
"Not bad" he says
"Right back at you" I say
I get up and go to the kitchen.
"You need help with anything" I ask
"Um I think I'm good" Kelsey says
"did you make a dessert yet" I ask
"No" she says
"Can I make something" I ask
"Go right ahead" she says
"Ooh what are you making" Caleb asks
"Secret" I say
"Phooey" he grumbles
"Caleb unless you are going to help me cook dinner get out and set the table" Kelsey says
"Yes ma'am" he says
"How are you able to put up with five brothers? I can barely put up with the guys" she says
"Well the two youngest are 5 months and 3 years old. The two oldest are 19 and going overseas for 4 years. The other one is 17 and is always out with friends" I say
"What about your parents" she asks
"They're always fighting, working, or worrying about the other kids to worry about me. I'm usually taking care of my younger siblings. My only friends are Casey and Nicole. To drown out my depression I either bake or listen to the guys music" I say
By the end if this I realize I'm in tears. Kelsey hugs me tight and we sit down at the table. Caleb walks in and see my tears and sits down on my other side.
"You ok Megan I heard what you were saying" he says
"Yeah I'm fine I'm use to this stuff happening" I say
I wipe my tears away and stand up. I finish mixing and put the cookies in the oven. I hear my phone ringing so I go outside and answer it.
Me-hey mom
Mo-hey honey how is it going there
Me-ok I'm staying with Caleb and Kelsey how is everything going there
Mo-your dad just filed for a divorce and he's kicking us out. We have all your stuff packed up. We don't know where we're moving to but we'll let you know where
Me-ok
I hang up and go inside. I pull the cookies out and put them on cooling racks. A few minutes later I hear familiar voices I run out and give the girls hugs. We eat dinner and everyone leaves. I go upstairs to my room and fall asleep.
