CHAPTER 13

- Sapien's POV

Zeki and Dese quickly climb up the stairs, as I follow carrying the little girl in my arms. She's so light and fragile. What happened to her parents? Why is no one looking after her and why she is just left alone to look after herself in the massive city of London? There's so many more questions that I want to ask her and hopefully the plaster's effects will wear off in the next two hours but because she's so weak the effects of the sedative might be much stronger. I hate to admit it but maybe Zeki has a point of not giving her the plaster, as it has only been tried on adults not children so other side effects could occur.

The wooden stairs creek as I climb up them. This is probably the first year in a while since, we are actually using the first floor of the house, as we usually leave straight away, when we get our mission briefings. I guess the society probably didn't want to bore us, so they decided to change the mission style, always trying to keep us on our feet, making life difficult.

Zeki emerges from the first room on the right covered in dust and coughing. His nose is bright red and it appears he's coming out in rashes across the rest of his pale skin. I guess his allergies will be playing up all night. He doesn't want to admit it but he is literally sensitive to everything from eating apples to dust mites, yet he still plays the big shot, like he's invincible. He walks past me carrying the dust sheets and dumping them in the far corner of the corridor, that has five wooden doors. I step into the room, despite most of the spotlights are fused, the room is very brightly lit. There is an electronic bed in the middle of the room and I gently place the child on the bed, placing a quilt on top of her, tucking her in.

I turn around and see a very dusty and cobwebby flat screen TV with an Xbox Kinetic connected to it. They are so ancient, I remember once reading about these, how excellent entertainment was. I think it was at its peak and then the storm came along and everything went downhill from there. Power started to run out and wars increased in brutality as some people had powers so had advantages over others. Oh, what an even worse disaster our world has become now.

There are two sides to the world now, the Domi Society and if your not part of them your an enemy, a traitor. We, the Domi Society believe and I hope they still stand by this after 100's of years even though at times it doesn't seem like it, that the the people that have powers can integrate into the Norms society. However anyone who disagrees with this want to dictate the Norms and believe we are the superior "race" as we have powers. You're either on one side or the other, never in between.

Obviously the important Norms know of our existence, such as governments and the more open minded Norms but to others we are simply a bed time story passed on from generation to generation. We can tell Norms if we want to but usually they just freak out and try to put us into a nuthouse, to be honest it's not really our problem if they can't see what's in front of them. And yes we have been at this war for years but at the moment it has calmed down a little. I guess people tire and don't want to invest time and money in a war that will never be won.

I break out of my thoughts as Dese stumbles out of an electronic wardrobe, with an irritated expression on her face.

"Urghh the electronic clothes rack doesn't work and nearly everything in there has moth holes in them, apart from these." She places two shirts, pair of jeans and some underwear on the back of a spinning chair. She should be thankful that, even these managed to be preserved from the harshness of centuries.

"I'm just going to check if there is still running water in the bathroom." She says as she walks to the en-suite in the room.

If every room was like this, a rich family must have lived here with the latest gadgets and furnishings of their time.

"ARGGHH" There was a muffled scream followed by a thump. Oh great. My heart plummets. Another murderer on the loose. How did they even know we are here? Did they follow us?

"What?!" I say as I sprint to the bathroom, a few seconds after I'm followed by a sneezing Zeki. We both pull out our weapons expecting another incident like yesterday. But we find a blushing Dese, standing in the middle of the white tiled bathroom.

"What's the matter?"

"What's happened?" Zeki and me say at the same time, our questions colliding.

"Urgh nothing, just saw a Spi-ake but got rid of it and flushed it down the toilet. It just shocked me, maybe I'm a little drained and need some sugar." Dese says looking down at the floor as she pushes past us.

Zeki and me glance at each other and shrug and both say "Girls." rolling our eyes.

We all leave the bedroom, I glance at the girl, she hasn't moved despite the amount of noise we have been conjuring. I hope my plaster hasn't had too much effect on her. I leave the door ajar so when the girl wakes up she will know to come downstairs because she can hear our voices.

Zeki clasps my shoulders and says "So you're making dinner tonight Sapi. I'm so hungry."

"But it's you're turn today, why do I need to make supper?" I interrogate, my suspicions rising as he tries to skive responsibility.

"Well if you want me to, I will but don't yell at me when you find snot in your food." He warns just before he sneezes to prove his point.

Gross. Always the charmer our Zeki. I would rather make super tonight than whatever he will rustle up.
