CHAPTER 33

5 years later

- Sapien's POV

The pebbles crunch under our feet, all three of us absorbed in our thoughts, finally we are arriving back home, after a whole week away.

I sigh escapes my mouth, as I crane my neck up at the historic castle, it's once white stones darkened through the centuries. The multitude of diamond patterned windows, scattered across the walls, gaze down on Dese, me and the new child we found. I can distinguish the few but sufficient security guards I placed around the campus, being in the authoritative position of headmaster. They peer down at us, from the top of the stoned minaret, giving us respective nods as we draw closer to home.

The sweet smell of dew from the green grass of spring, eagerly greets me, relaxing my fatigued muscles and thawing the remnants of out last destination, the Arctic. The early morning rays warms me to idea of meeting all the children at the academy again, slipping into the role of teaching and guiding.

I look at Dese, her face radiating light and happiness, she catches me gazing at her. My wife smiles back at me, her beauty making me breathless.

I couldn't have asked for more, we had come a long from the night Zeki died, reestablishing the Domi Society, opening a new academy, having a continuous stream of children joining the academy, regardless if  they had parents or not.

There is still a large distance to go yet, fixing broken ties with the Norms, solving the conflict with The Keepers and strengthening our harmonious Society. Many disassociated themselves from the Society, choosing to be apart from it altogether, others had gone to join The Keepers. Their trust had been betrayed the main goal of equality had been destroyed, all in one day. So why not join the other side? The fickleness of people surprises me sometimes, can't they just hang on a little longer?

Nothing can be perfect but I need to now establish a resolution, to restore back some of the inspiration and hope the Domi Society had created decades ago.

The motion sensing metal gates swing open as we approach further to the wooden barred door.

"Joy, this is going to be your new home, for now. Welcome to the Domi Society." I introduce the six year old that clings to Dese. She nods timidly.

It's strange to see how much Dese has developed into a more approachable person, she has grown to realise that it's acceptable to let her guard down, once in awhile. Displaying that, kind and considerate side of her, which has made her more attractive to people for interaction. Although that fierce and bitter warrior explodes out of her, when she is pissed.

Whereas, I've learned that I need not, hide out in the rain-forest because of my heightened skills and senses. I maybe different and can do things better than the average person but we've learned that we can be accepted by society and our skills and knowledge can be useful. We don't need to alienate ourselves like we did before.

The heavy doors automatically swing open by my touch, a glimmer catches my eye. A instantly stall. Dese catches my abrupt lack of movement.

"Trip wire." I murmur in her ear. She briefly nods her understanding.

We carefully step over it. A whoosh is felt over ahead, tiny wriggling creatures are emptied on top of us. Dese screams as I catch sight of hundreds of Spi-ake scurrying around us, embedding themselves in our frost-beaten clothes and hair.

"AHHH!" Joy wails as the Spi-ake descend on her cowering fragile figure. I don't know what mental damage will occur in this child after this event.
